Why Video Games Interest the Youth
What is it about video games that interest you.
The video game world has often been a form of escapism for me from a young age. I often seem to stick to fantasy games that allow me to entertain myself in another make believe world where there are challenges to complete and an alternative dimension to let my mind go free from the common day to day stresses of school and university life. I much prefer escaping in a world and creating a new personality online where there are no boundaries on what I achieve compared to perhaps the more popular format of beating other players in shoot em ups or sports. For me video games give a sense of thrill and unwinding without having to go to the trouble of travelling far and spending the money to try get that real life thrill. Predominately whilst doing studies it allowed me to feel thousands of miles away from my academic stress for a few hours a day and bring me back when I needed to get work done.
How often do you play and what games do you play
The amount I play often varies with how much work I need to get done and whether I can spare time. Often as I explained it is a form of stress release, so even in exam periods I find it important to take at least an hour out of the day to play. The time period available often determines the game I play. A favourite of mine, if I have a large amount of free time, has been Oblivion. The huge map and improvement of graphics from previous instalments meant that for me it swept every game aside in that genre. If I have a short time period, I’d play a game close to my heart which is Tomb Raider. I love this game not entirely because of the idea of relating to a strong female character in a predominately male orientated industry but having seen it develop through my childhood it is a perfect game to play in short bursts and easily continue at the next break.
What Video game campaign have excited you and why?
In the previous question I expressed my adoration for the Tomb Raider campaigns.

Research has shown that video games heighten creativity, decision making and perception. For instance the hit game Mine Craft right now allows you to create your own world from scratch. With millions of possibilities this game really lets your creative side jump out on to your computer screen. There are also a lot of games in circulation right now in which you have to make a certain decision that could change the outcome of the rest of the game. I was playing a game recently where you get to choose whether to have your character take a good path or bad path. I chose good path because of the spiffs I got for being good. Video games also improve your hand-eye coordination, and promote vision changes that heighten your night driving abilities. Research has shown that surgeons that played video games were better surgeons than those that never played at all. Who doesn't want to be a better night driver? I remember my mom would hate me driving at night when I was younger, but I loved it. I was also an avid video game player since I was old enough to…

During the last decade, attention and accusations within the media have turned more to the meteoric rise in popularity of arcade-type home computer and console games. Considerable anecdotal evidence abounds about how teenagers are affected by shoot-em-up and beat-em-up games. Zimbardo (1982) remarked that video games are so addictive to young people that they may be socially isolating and may actually encourage violence between people. Another comment came from the surgeon-general of the United States, who expressed his personal view that video games were one of the root causes of family violence in America. He was quoted as saying that children "are into the games, body and soul - everything is zapping the enemy. Children get to the point where when they see another child being molested by a third child, they just sit back" (Koop, 1982).…

Video game consoles have made their way into the households and hearts of millions of people all around the world. New games of all different genres are continually being produced and bought by consumers from every inch of the globe, only becoming more popular as time goes on. Throughout the past couple of years technology as a whole has been on a drastic up rise. With continuous breakthroughs in the technological field the video game industry has been able to flourish into its current state. Companies now days are able to produce more and more realistic like gaming experiences. These life-like graphics and visual effects put the gamer right in the action, bringing joy to many while enraging numerous others. The way in which one views and understands the game’s contents is the way in which one perceives the video game. More often than not parents, who do not play video games, tend to focus on the negative aspects of the game, namely violence. The parents who are buying the video games for their children see only the cruelty and disgusting features making up only part of the whole. Most avid gamers would agree with the above statement, arguing the blood and gore is just a small part of the many aspects of some video games that complement the other components such as graphic quality and plot. The way in which one perceives an individual video game more often than not depends on whether or not the person is a gamer. The way in which some people perceive video games angers me because it seems as though they are over looking the big picture and viewing the game with a pessimistic point of view. By doing this, those people are doing themselves and the creators of games an injustice.…

I have played video games my whole life. Video games have a special place in my heart. They were essentially my whole childhood and it was a great way for me to connect with friends. My friends and I would pull all-nighters playing games and those were some great times. I never really thought of myself as an addict when it came to gaming. My mother told me millions of times to get my eyes off the television screen because it was frying my brain. I admit, I spent a great deal of time on video games and have had phases where I felt addiction kicking in. There is a certain high you get from playing games. Constant repetition when failure occurs is motivating. Wanting to reach the next level and talk about it with my buds the next day was pure enjoyment for…

Aside from the cognitive aspects, video games are also the tool of social interactions. Friendships can sometimes be developed through playing video games and ultimately keeping them away from drug usage and violent activities. Most of the video games today have either multiplayer or online capabilities or even both. For example, I made friends with several Japanese and lots of Americans from playing "Call of Duty 4" online. The game focuses on eliminating the other team hence teamwork has a major role in succeeding…
