With long, drawn-out wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, regularly scheduled deployments to other areas of the world, and tensions between the U.S. and Iran threatening to ignite another war, our military is spread too thin. For our military to complete its mission of defending our country effectively, it is obvious that more personnel are needed. One way to ensure the military is not under-manned would be to reinstitute the draft. Reinstituting the draft would ensure the military an unlimited supply of new recruits. However, there are other, better, and more cost-effective ways to ensure that our military is properly manned without resorting to a draft.…

I do not believe that the United States should institute in the practice of requiring people to serve in the military. While it would be very loyal to the United States, I think people should have the rights to choose their own career and not be forced into something they have no interest in. Also with so many people being forced into the military for one or more years, other jobs would not have people to fill up positions, important jobs such as police officers, doctors, teachers, or even people in entertainment. Which would really change up the economy.…

We must remain very flexible, able to fight in any situation, condition, and environment. We may face a conventional force one day, save a life of a citizen in our country the next day, and face an unconventional enemy that does not adhere to the Geneva Convention the next. Therefore we have adapted to the current combat operation requirements, still keeping in mind the past wars, and looking forward to what seems like the probable future conflicts and operations. In the “Profession of Arms” book, the text states “Profession of Arms sponsors continuous self-assessment, learning, and development that together enable the Army to be an adaptive, learning profession.” (TRADOC, 2010) We have relaxed some standards, but have created a climate that attracts and eases the current youth and U.S. population to serve their country. This allows the military to enlist and retain members and allow them the opportunity to implement their ingenuity that shapes the future of our defense. This country has some of the most intelligent minds of the world. In our military we are encouraged to learn continuously, ranging from institutional civilian education, career training at all levels of advancement as well as task focused training. Seek self improvement and bring it back the organization to share with others. That is the core model of a soldier’s…

In some countries, every young person must serve two years of military service. The general public in the United States feels that we should allow that in our country while other people disagree. A two-year period of military service should be mandatory for all young adults, but making the devotion to serving that time in the military should be each individual’s decision. Personally, young adults should be able to live their lives of how they want it, and other mature people should be able to volunteer for the military. Each individual should be able to make their own choices in life and not be forced to do something they strongly disagree with. Granting opportunities to young and mature people will help the military enlist a mature recruit, strengthen the military clan, and attract even more people to join in the military. We should be able to grant choices to the young and mature adults and respect their decision.…
