Why Platypus Is Unique
If there is one word to describe a platypus, it would be unique. They differ dramatically from the rest of the mammals. Many people say the platypus, or platypodes aren't mammals for obvious reasons; however, they are wrong. Platypuses are one of the most interesting of animals and mammals. Platypodes are the most unique mammals to live on Earth.

People often see sea organisms that look the same and think that they have the same name; however, they do no not have the same name do to their characteristics. What is a characteristic? By definition a characteristic is a specific feature(s) or quality that help distinct an organism. Thus, a person might spot a seal and then make a conclusion that sea lions and seals contain the same name and are alike; however, this is not true due to the fact that sea lions have visible ear flaps, solid color, and long flippers with claws where as seals have ear holes, spots with multiple colors, and short flippers with claws. What do you think of when the word Lemur is said? What is a lemur exactly? In particular, I found the picture of lemurs to be most interesting. Not only do lemurs have long tails, but their tails are black and white with a horizontal pattern, however there is one species of lemurs that do not have long tails. It is true that I have never seen a lemur before, but that is because I do not live in Madagascar according to the book. With that being said, lemurs could be classified as “Strepsirrhini”, as they have a distinctive look with features like their feet, claws, and their teeth. Lemurs are known to be “the smallest primate”, although lemurs used to be bigger, they now are smaller due to “the amount of food they need to survive”. Knowingly,…

All living things, like the deer, have a specific arrangement of features that defines them as a species; also known as the order in which they naturally follow. Part of the natural consistencies of organisms is that they are all made up of cells and can respond to their environmental changes. This usually entails temporary changes, such as a pig rolling in the mud to keep cool on a particularly sunny day. A more permanent change would be the organism evolving over the course of generations to adapt to its environment, such as how…

Millions of species inhabit Earth. How do scientists make sense of them all? First, scientists study the similarities and differences between organisms. The scientists study characteristics including obvious physical traits, such as hair or leaves, and molecular traits, such as DNA sequences. Then, scientists use the information to classify species into meaningful groups. The groups may also reveal which species are related and how they fit along the evolutionary tree. Scientists who specialize in the naming and classifying of species are called taxonomists. In this activity, you will act as a taxonomist and identify and classify an unusual organism.…
