These days, it seems like performance enhancing drugs are the norm in the professional sports worlds. Whether it is football or basketball players, many professional athletes are getting exposed to PEDs. As a result, a lot of athletes are consuming performance enhancing drugs because athletes are living in a culture where PEDs are acceptable in all sports profession. I believe that a lack of personal accountability is to blame for the seriousness of this issue. PEDs are undoubtedly a temptation for baseball players due to the physical and mental benefits that they provide, and I agree that “Given the perceived link between offense and popularity, and the roster decisions that gave preference to offensive potential, it cannot be surprising that players would conclude that their individual success as professional baseball players was linked to their offensive potential and productivity” (Solberg, 98). This idea that the culture and values existing within sports gives players a skewed view of success is in the essay, “Performance-Enhancing Drug Use in Baseball: The Impact of Culture” which is written by authors Joe Solberg, Department of Finance Insurance and Law at Illinois State University, and Richard Ringer, Department of Management & Quantitative Methods at Illinois State University. However, regardless of the “benefits” of PEDs, they are illegal and dishonest. Each person faces temptations in life, but our morals and values decide whether or not we give in to them. Baseball players need to be held accountable for their wrongdoings rather than being regarded as innocent because they have the same opportunity to resist temptations as everybody else. In my opinion,…

The people who push these drugs are usually the people teenagers look up to. The drug pushers are the kids teachers, coaches and even their parents. It seems to me that if a parent pushes steroids on their children that they are not living in reality. They are probably living the lives they never had through their children. When the children do not live up to the parents expectations the parents push the drugs to make the children the best they can be even if it kills him. It is a shame to see that the parents are living their dreams through their kids and killing them in the process. Along with the parents and the coaches, another big contributor to steroid use among teenagers are everyday sports heroes. If a professional sports figure is busted using any drug he should be banned from all competition and be forced to teach or attend classes that show what the drug does to your body and mind. Right now it seems that all professional figures caught using and abusing are given a slap on the wrist and a pathetic fine then sent on their way. They reap the benefits of being a sports figure and yet they are giving the youth of America the impression that drugs are good. In layman terms, they are killing our youth. They trick them into believing that drug abuse is ok, and that whatever enhances your…

Performance enhancing drugs are not good for you and not fair in professional sports. They are not fair because they are pretty much cheating. In the article, “Athletes and Drugs”, the author states, “Some professional athletes use steroids and other drugs to gain a competitive advantage in their sport.”(Sprague) This shows that they are using substances that gives them the upperhand, like building muscles, in the sport without working hard like everyone else. Also, these performance enhancing drugs may damage your body horribly. According to the author, “Such substances have been known to cause death by heart attack in previously healthy users.”(Sprague) These steroid and other drugs can change many people’s lives by damaging their health…

Drugs can do a lot of bad things for an athletes body. Meyer, Stephen wrote,¨ Epo can increase the number of red blood cells to such a degree that the blood becomes too thick to flow properly, potentially leading to heart attacks and strokes.¨(Meyer). Taking drugs like these can lead to death, a win is not worth more than an athlete's life. Another bad thing steroids can do is lead to Cardiovascular problems. Meyer, Stephen said in his article,¨Some studies have associates steroid use with serious cardiovascular problems, including cardiomyopathies (inflammation of the heart muscle), irregular heart rhythm, development of embolisms( blockage of an artery by a clot or particle that is carried in the bloodstream), and the heart failure.¨(Meyer). This is another health issue that can lead to death which is not worth it. People who take or sell steroids should understand that a life is at risk. People have to understand that what may seem to be a harmless enhancer can actually lead to someone's…

Performance enhancing drugs in sports has become a controversial issue in the world today, especially when it comes to athletes and people involved in it. These drugs are commonly known as PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) and people who use these drugs to enhance their performance consider it legitimate as it helps in improving their concentration level. Today's athletes continue to push the boundaries of distinction in performance and physical fitness. PEDs have been a go to source for these athletes, with more refined training methods and technologies. However from a social and ethical perspective, PEDs possess harmful threats to the consumer and those who compete with them. For years there has been an ongoing argument about whether performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) should be legalised in professional sports. The use of performance-enhancing drugs, commonly known as doping, has been happening behind the scenes. You hear about the athletes in the first Olympic Games (776 B.C.) improving their fights and recovering quickly from fatigue and injuries during their battles by using hallucinogens and stimulants. In my opinion, PEDs should be legalised due…

There are many factors associated with why performance-enhancing drugs shouldn't be used in sports one of the main association is health risks. Performance-enhancing drugs should not be used in the sport because as they use the enhancing drug they are destroying the sport fair play and roll models in other people's eyes. Enhancing your body with drugs may lead up to overdosing or illnesses however If everybody took these performance-enhancing drugs everyone would be unbeatable and it would be unfair to the people who are allergic to the drugs but they still want to play the sport, but can never win because all the other people who take the drugs will guaranty win. Many people do not see the severity of drug use in professional and High School athletics. Drug use in professional athletics is looked upon as somewhat of a serious problem, but also very discrete and low key. Every once in a while and individual might see a prominent figure in a certain sport being reprimanded for the use of an outlawed drug. However , that athlete may just be one of the many who happened to get caught. Athletes today seem to find no moral problem with using performance-enhancing drugs, or in other words, cheating. Athletes feel that because they are "stars" there should be no repercussions for their illegal activity. Today, drug use in sports has reached enormous proportions in society and destroying athletics from the ground up. The use of steroids and other performance enhancement drugs also effects athletes at the high school level. It does not matter how good the athlete is, a zero-tolerance policy should be in place at all levels of competition.…

What if people used performance enhancing drugs in sports? Are there any side effects from using PEDs? Should professional athletes use them? What if I use them just to be a little better in sports? Many people would argue that legalizing performance enhancing drugs will make professional and recreational sports better. They think sports as a whole will be raised to the next level of entertainment. Despite this belief, sports can only be brought down from the use of these drugs; if an athlete has no skill or natural ability performance enhancing drugs will only hurt them.…

When watching someone participate in any sport, the audience thinks about how much effort was put into practicing, and not what the player smoked to gain their superhuman stamina. In sports, the competitors need to practice to become better, not default to who has the money to buy the best drugs. Performance enhancing drugs may help during a couple of games, but it’s not worth putting so many lives at risk. Forest Tennant JR., who is an NFL drug adviser, has estimated that half of all professional athletes have been exposed to drugs in their careers.…

You may or may have not heard of the famous Lance Armstrong. Maybe you know him for winning the Tour De France seven times. Or you know him as the cyclist who used steroids and got caught. Due to his actions his title as the cyclist who won the famous race seven times was stripped from that name. Which leads me to my point, if Performance Enhanced Drugs (PED’s) were to become legalized it would cause multiple problems not only on the field but even at home. Their legalization would raise multiple health concerns, cause unfairness in sporting events, and badly influence the children of today's generation.…
