Why It's Wrong To Force Children Into Military Service?
When I was young I wasn’t forced into serving my nation as a military soldier, holding a ten-pound gun. I was going to school, playing with my friends, and taking vacations with my family. I was never forced to such horrible things like murder anyone or carry a gun, but these children have been doing it since they were nine. A claim to be made is that forcing children into the military is wrong. The first reason why it’s wrong is that it prevents children from being children. Moreover, another reason why it’s wrong is that they are manipulating and sacrificing children for their own gains. Although, some might disagree with me and say that children are the best weapons for war. I completely disagree with that and will explain why throughout …show more content…
It is written in “Armed and Underage” by Jeffrey Gettleman, “In Afghanistan, there have been reports of children being used as soldiers or suicide bombers by the Taliban and other insurgents. And in the Middle East, Palestinian children in the West Bank and Gaza have been sent into Israel as suicide bombers.” Middle - Eastern countries are recruiting children to be soldiers and suicide bombers. This demonstrates that it is wrong to force children into military service since they are manipulated and sacrifice for others personal gains. This quote demonstrates this because we see that child who were forced into the military in the middle-east are also being forced to sacrifice themselves for the gains of the organization. Jeffrey Gettleman also writes, “ In Colombia, approximately 8,000 children are fighting in armed rebel groups battling the U.S.-backed government. The rebels have used boys and girls as combatants and spies, and to plant mines.” In Colombia, about 8, 000 children are fighting in rebel groups as combatants and spies, they also plant mines. This, again, is a demonstration that forced children into the military is wrong because they are manipulated and sacrificed for someones own self gain. This is demonstrated because 8,000 children are being used as combatants and manipulated into planting mine fields, these …show more content…
It is written in “Armed and Underage” by Jeffrey Gettleman, ‘"Child soldiers are ideal,’ a military commander from the African nation of Chad told Human Rights Watch. ‘They don't complain, they don't expect to be paid—and if you tell them to kill, they kill."’ Children are the perfect weapon because they don’t complain, expect to be paid, and if you tell them to kill they kill. This shows how the children are the perfect because they are obedient, content, and are low maintenance. Whatever you want them to do, murder or not, children will do it. Jeffrey Gettleman also writes, “In some countries, hunger and poverty drive parents to sell their children into service. What's more, children are often considered the perfect weapon: They are easily manipulated, intensely loyal, fearless, and, most important, in endless supply.” Again, children are the perfect weapon because they are loyal, fearless, and there’s a constant supply of them. Whatever you want them to do, they will do it, and they will never turn their backs on you. Although, I can see where these opinions are coming from I have to respectfully disagree, I believe it is wrong to force children into military service. In the article “The Charge: Genocide” by Lydia Polgreen it is written, “A few weeks earlier—before it was attacked by Arab militias known as janjaweed—Abu Sorouj had been a bustling town with

You sit in a trench and wait for your orders to come. You look left and right to see your comrades sitting with you, but they aren’t grown men and women, they are children. Your mind is unsteady and lightheaded from the drugs you were given. When you look out of the trench you see children only eight years of age marching into a village and burning everything down to a smoldering ash. Some children do it for protection others doing it for their religion. Hundreds of lives were taken when the village burned down, and it was all at the hands of children. Child soldiers have been in existence for years. People believe that child soldiers should be punished for their crimes and put into jail, but why? Why would you put a little one in jail when they were told what they were doing was right? These minors have not been given the proper chance to live a life to the fullest of their potential.…

throughout the world. It is estimated that there are as many if not more than 300,000 child soldiers around the world. Since 2001 and as of 2008, child soldiers have participated in 21 on-going or recent armed conflicts in almost every region of the world. Ranging from ages of 8 to 15, child soldiers are raped, abused, and sometimes even sent on suicide missions if they haven't died from the hardship put on a child in the military. 40% of child soldiers are recruited by force and many times forced to kill their family so that they don't have anything to come back to if they escape from the military. Although many countries still practice the recruiting of children, I believe stopping this practice will cause benefits to society, child soldiers lives, and quality of the protection of the country that stops this practice.…

First and foremost, the consideration of whether or not to help children is the issue. Many of them suffer from drug addiction and are basically brainwashed. To help the mass amount of child soldiers, we should give them amnesty. But we can’t just let them loose into the world because they can all still be dangerous. As the Armed & Underage article states, “They don’t complain, they don’t expect to be paid-and if you tell them to kill, they kill.” This is to show that if they are to hear the word kill, they’ll kill. Of course others may say differently. Personal research has been conducted and has…
