Why Is The Outsiders Be Banned
The outsiders have been banned in some public school in the United States. It is considered a “ bad example” for young people because it has characters that smoke, drink, swear and fight. It even includes a murder. Using examples from the book, how can you convince the class that this book actually contains good morals and examples for young people?

The Outsiders has been banned in some public schools in the United States because “bad examples” are all throughout the book. I believe the book actually contains good morals and examples for young people. For an example, in the book they show how Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally help people from a burning fire, at the church they were hiding in,while they are on the run from Johnny committing a crime.

Both may appear different with their appearance, but they actually are quite similar with their more personal look. Money or no money, both can share the same problems and situations in life, money is not a factor.
4.Choose the Greaser that you think best represents the qualities of a hero. Look up the definition of the word “hero,” or write your own definition. Be sure to explain how this particular character, in his own way, meets your definition. Remember to support your ideas with examples from the novel. A hero is someone who shows brave acts and shows kind movement, willingly. I think Johnny represents the qualities of a hero. After all he has been through, being abused, mentally and verbally by his family. After all he had been put through, when it came to the fire, he out his own life at risk to save complete strangers from a fire, and injured himself during the process. He knew that he was putting himself at risk , but he did not hesitate one bit. Johnny did this act free willingly, this was very brave of him. I think with what he did to bob, and what is happening at home, that this act could be done by

He had the roughest background to me out of the whole gang. He always had this spark of sadness in his eyes. The gang thinks of him as an abused puppy. To me after all he has been put through, he still does all these heroic things in the book, and seeing his background and seeing what he does just makes my mind blown. He has defiantly impacted me. He made me think that not all heros have a perfect super life. You don't have to be rich, or have a perfect life to show acts of kindness and braveness. Johnny showed both, and he may have made some mistakes, but everyone has and will. He may not be like every gang member , but he definitely showed that , he can do what he puts his mind to.
7.What does it mean when Johnny tells Ponyboy to “stay gold”? Is there more than one meaning? Does it have meaning for people today, too? Explain. When Johnny tells Ponyboy to “stay gold” he is quoting “Nothing gold can stay”. I think what he was trying to say was that he wanted Ponyboy to remain young for as long as he could. I think Johnny told him that also, cause that is what Pony read one morning at the church. I think the poem was something that the two of them shared . I do believe that this does have a meaning for people today. It’s telling people out there to enjoy your young and youthful, cause you do not stay gold forever.
8.What is the main theme of this book? Explain using details from the book for support. Don’t forget to consider

Johnny seems to fit the most in the definition of a hero. In The Outsiders, he sacrificed his life of being in the outside world for Pony. He killed Bob when the Socs were drowning Ponyboy. He also keeps going on even with his conflicts at home. In Chapter 6, Johnny, Pony, and Dally pull up to there hideout. Both Johnny and Pony run into save the kids. He ends up breaking his back from a piece of falling timber. Another piece of evidence that shows he is a hero is that . Furthermore,…

Johnny is seen more tough than sensitive in the book the The Outsiders. A piece of evidence that shows that Johnny is tough is “I killed him,” (Hinton, 49). This shows that Johnny is tough because he was not scared to kill him, like how an average person would have been. Another example is “He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.” (Hinton, 79). This also shows that Johnny is tough because…

The Outsiders is a novel written by S.E Hinton in the 1960’s, the novel is based on a true story. The story is about Ponyboy, a teenager that belongs in the gang called Greasers. There is another gang that opposes the Greasers called the Socs. The two gangs live in two sides of Oklahoma, the Greasers being in the east, and the Socs being in the west. However, The Outsiders movie was very interesting, the novel portrayed the story line better in my opinion. For one the novel is more detailed such as when Johnny got jumped by Bob and three of his Soc friends, but the movie does not. Also, the novel describes in chapter 4 page 53 that there is a swimming pool at the park but they movie shows nothing about there being a pool there. In addition, the novel also states when Dallas Winston takes Ponyboy and Johnny to Dairy Queen they sit in the Restaurant, but in the movie, they do not. Lastly, those are the few reasons why the novel is better than the movie.…

The Outsiders book is a great book that is action packed, joke filled, and great for imagination. In the book it shows the hardship of the “Greasers” lives versus the hardships of the “Socs” lives which were supposedly much easier. It also shows the thoughts that ran through Ponyboy's head as and after he was helping the kids safely out of the burning church. In the book, Sodapop looks the best by far. “Soda is handsomer than anyone I know (Hinton 7).” Johnny is just a scrawny little boy. Ponyboy has long greased back hair. “My hair is longer than a lot of boys (Hinton 1).” Darry looks tough and mean. Dally is hard,…

Johnny is a hero in The Outsiders because he has helped people. The first way he has helped people is when he killed Bob to save Ponyboy from drowning. This helps people because that way Ponyboy survives and does not die. The second way he has helped people is when he decided to turn himself in. This is an act of heroism because he helps Ponyboy because it makes his life easier by not having to hide out all his life and by being able to go places and be a real person again. The third and final way Johnny is a hero is because he saves kids from the burning church. This helps people because it saves many kids' lives while risking his own life. Johnny risked his life so many times for many people and that is why he…

“I want to propose that the educational canonization of The Outsiders is enabled in part by the fact that, although it tantalizes audiences with the relativity rare acknowledgment of social classes as a problem.” (Tribunella). In The Outsiders, the main issue is between the Greasers and the Sons because of where they stand when it comes to their social classes. The Greasers are poor and wear leather jackets with jeans and slicked back hair. “The ‘popular kids’ run the school and mandate the status quo.” (Artifice). The Socs on the other hand are rich and wear their varsity jackets while sitting in fancy cars looking for a poor Greaser to jump. Class issues and social classes are also present in the book and movie To Kill a Mockingbird. The social class issues in this book/movie are between the black part of…

Although there is reasons to read “The Outsiders” some may still argue not to read it at our age and level. Stephen May, a reviewer, argued that there was too much violence and gang related topics. But if you look out your window today or simply walk down the street you see violence and graffiti on bridges and walls. A student at Lone Star Elementary in California wrote that she didn’t like being exposed to all the references to alcohol, drugs and sex. But eventually you are going to be exposed to those things if students have already not, it’s a part of growing up.…

‘The Outsiders’ by S.E Hinton shows the challenges of teenagers in America during the 1960’s. Many of the characters in the novel are ‘heroes’ as they face their fears and become better people. Johnny was a character to remember. He overcame his own fears to save the lives of pony-boy and a group of young children. Darry was courageous due to the sacrifices and choices he made to his family. Cherry Valance will be highly remembered for all she stood up for and all she believed in. Although all these characters were heroes, there are some characters in the novel that can’t be admired. The soc’s were violent people who only thought about themselves. Their reckless behaviour led to suffering and fear.…

The Outsiders gives the reader hints and ideas from the story explaining how we should act and other moral issues. For example, a message the author describes is to stay young and innocent. The Greasers, specifically the younger Greasers, are taught to smoke and kill at a young age. This leads them to do bad things such as going to jail, participating in rumbles, and robbing stores. In other words, bad influence at a young age allows them to do illegal actions. By showing these actions from characters and the negative results, Hinton leads readers to the best idea of civility- trying to prevent the habit of performing crimes and being corrupted. Also, S.E. Hinton sends an important message to people who want to give up. She gives clues throughout the story about the importance of friendship and to not block out your emotions and problems. When Johnny dies, Ponyboy started to give up, emotionally and physically. He keeps on convincing himself that Johnny isn’t dead and also neglects his family, including his gang. S.E. Hinton teaches the readers that just because they’ve been…
