Texting and driving is a bad and dangerous thing for a teenager to do. Texting while driving is one of the ways that teens are injured or worst case scenario, killed. Every year 6,000 people die because of distracted driving and almost half a million suffer severe injuries. If the teenagers that died texting while driving were still alive; I'm sure they would've thought twice about texting behind the wheel. If you text or talk while driving, then think to yourself. Every time you look down at your phone, your eyes are off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That is plenty of time for a crash to happen. Texting while driving is severely dangerous on the road while operating a vehicle. Texting while driving interrupts it cognitively as you think about the texting message instead of on the road. It interrupts it manually as your fingers type the message back to another person. It interrupts it visually as you look down at your phone. All of these are reasons why texting while driving should be illegal in every state. The government has started to realize that texting while driving is starting to become a nationwide problem. People do not need to communicate every second, every minute, and every hour of everyday. There are so many sad stories about texting while driving. A lot of innocent people are dying each day because of their actions or because of others and that should not be happening. Texting while driving is not worth killing or dying over! Do you check it and text while you’re driving, or do you wait until you are done driving? According to Erin Shumaker, on average, about 9 Americans are killed every day from motor vehicle accidents that involve being distracted driving by using a cell phone, texting, or eating. So that means over 3,000 deaths per year are because of driver’s being distracted by their phones. Texting while driving is not only dangerous, but has become more mind controlling to younger people in today’s society more than ever. Shumaker adds in his article that the age group most likely to send a text or email while driving is the ages between twenty one and twenty four and the risk of crashing are four times more if using a cell phone. Certainly a discomforting statistic for most that would seemingly be made aware to younger age drivers, but only becomes more of a growing problem every year.…

One of the main reasons that make texting while driving very dangerous is that using traffic or on busy roads. The amount of time the one talks before reacting to a situation in most cases, determines whether one gets to continue living. As much as it is both dangerous to call and text while driving, texting while driving is actually more dangerous because looking at your phone for more than 5 seconds going 55 mph the driver's eyes will be off the road the size of a football field. About 80% of US teens aged 16 to…

There's reasons why teens decided to use their phone while driving. Teens that observe their parents or friends driving while texting and driving, adapts them to say “if they can do, I can do it too”. Another statistic from “Texting and Driving Safety,” says that “48% of young drivers have seen their parents drive while talking on the phone,” – also, 15% teen drivers have viewed their parents text while driving. Like I said, teens get influenced by their parents, and do as they do. But teens shouldn't follow their footsteps. Teens should know that is dangerous, but no, they tend to do it because they think it's easy and not that dangerous. A percentage of 55 shows that young drivers think it's easy to text and drive, and 77% feel confident that they can safety drive while usage of phone and…

Many consider that texting while driving can be very dangerous. They say that roads aren’t safe when driver’s text and drive. But in reality there wouldn’t be a difference in roads if the ban of texting while driving was enacted. In my opinion I don’t think texting while driving should be banned. I disagree with the whole concept of it. Banning texting while driving would be pointless, hard to enforce, and it isn’t the cause of increase in car accidents.…

There is rarely any legitimate reason to text and drive. The vast majority of the texts I receive and send are not life or death situations that require my immediate attention, but when I answer that text, I put myself in a life or death situation. I’m also failing in the responsibility that I and every other person takes up when they get behind the wheel, to drive to the best of my abilities in order to keep myself and those around me safe. It would hurt nothing if I was to simply ignore my phone for the duration of the trip, then answer any messages I’ve received. So by texting while driving, I’m putting at risk the lives of all around me, plus my own, all so that can have conversation that could…

I somewhat agree with your stance on the subject. It is indeed dangerous to use a cell phone in order to text while driving. It does make sense for the government to pass a law and prohibit texting and driving. I can understand some of the points that you have made concerning the issue of how people's privacy will be invaded. I agree that there is no way to tell for sure that a person is actually using a cell phone while driving. A car is barely visible when it comes to looking from the outside towards the inside which can explain why the police officer used in your example had trouble catching people texting while driving. Using your phone as a GPS is understandable, however, I believe that inputting a destination while one is driving over…

Experts say it takes a short period of time to send a text, which is not worth more than a human life. A lot of research has been done on the idea of texting while driving and they concluded that “Traffic experts say it takes any about seven seconds to send a text when behind the wheel” (Nelson). It doesn't matter how tough the laws are, teens will still take the risk and text while behind the wheel. “Despite tougher laws against cell phone use while driving, it will take a change of attitude about risky driving to change teen habits” (Nelson). according to Minnesota public radio. If teens follow these laws, there won't be danger, and their lives won't be at…
