“Tennis is lonely. There is nowhere to hide when things go wrong. No dugout, no sideline, no neutral corner. It’s just you out there naked” (57). This quote may mean nothing to people who don’t play tennis, but for tennis players, it defines the way it feels on the tennis court. “It's no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature. Even the structure of tennis, the way the pieces fit inside one another like Russian nesting dolls, mimics the structure of our days. Points become games become sets become tournaments, and it's all so tightly connected that any point can become the turning point. It reminds me of the way seconds become minutes become hours, and any hour can be our finest. Or darkest. It's our choice.” This is one of Andre’s most meaningful quotes from the book. Almost everyone who reads the quote, can learn a lot about life. Andre may be writing about tennis, but there are so countless universal themes that apply to…
I have chosen tennis as I have been doing since I was 7 and I want to do at competitive level so I want to improve on all of these components of fitness’ as I need them to play tennis well at a high standard.…
Tennis truly rewards the ability to concentrate on a singular purpose for a certain length of time.…
Just from sports you can learn life lessons for just that watching or even playing. Even though competitive sports is about participation it is all about how hard you work and how hard you try. If your team gets last in a tournament, that does not matter…
There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…
Baseball is the greatest sport ever made by mankind for many reasons. The level of excitement and passion for the game across the globe excels over all other sports. Over my career, baseball has taught me many things, and overall has made me a better person. As player, I began playing in House League with many other kids just like me who had a passion for the game. This sport gave me the opportunity to build friendships with children who had many of the same interest as me.…
I have always liked soccer since the day I started playing in California for my little league team. I had never followed it much and only knew how to play until I moved to India. In America soccer is not that popular a sport compared to Baseball and American Football but around the world it is the most popular sport in the world. I have always played football but I had never followed it until I was 14 and that ignited a passion in me like nothing else.…
I come from a simple and humble family that had to work very hard to survive and progress in the united states. At a young age I remember losing my father from an unexplicable disease that not even the best doctor in the US were able to figure out. Even though this devastated my entire family my mom never putted her head down and played both roles at home. It was difficult to get over It, but I was able to refuge myself on the soccer fields and get away from the streets ,alcohol, and drugs something that any other kid at age of twelve would have done in those days. Soccer has helped me to make friends everywhere, win many championships, and push myself to my limits to get better at it. My father always wanted me to play soccer and be part of a important team.…
The chance of turning a hobby of playing tennis into a career takes dedication, desire, and determination. Becoming professional and rubbing elbows with the William sisters or Maria Sharapova does not necessarily mean that a player has to be an elite level, have an unlimited resource of finances, and a very comfortable lifestyle. Similar to everything else, a person with restrictions or shortcomings must work harder to triumph over the constraints.…
Sometimes I like to think that I came out of the womb kicking a soccer ball. Here I am seventeen years later, and I can not remember a time I was not on a soccer team. Over the years, soccer has become a huge part of my life. I have played on two club teams, multiple YMCA teams, and my high school’s varsity soccer team. I even ventured out enough to coach a YMCA team last year. Having this sport in my life has shaped me into the person I am today, but my passion for this sport was not always this solid.…
"I think about that sometimes learning to play in a parking lot, stringing nets between cars. I learned to play by hitting against a brick wall, not a ball machine or other players. And my father was my coach teaching me from a 20 year old book. When I hear people say that you can't make it in tennis if you don't have a lot of money, I know they are wrong. We didn't have much money. But I loved the sport and that was enough" Monica Seles is a great example of someone who didn't have a lot of all the advantages of having money and still becoming a professional tennis player and winning 53 championships in her 13 year carer. I am going to imform you in this speech on the topics of how to play tennis, the history of tennis, and the grand slams of tennis.…
“ ‘Leave it,’ he said. ‘It was just a crazy idea I had. It’s not important.’…
I also play tennis. I started playing tennis my senior year of high school. I don’t play for college or any local teams, but I play with my friends very frequently.…
It’s all about when I first step onto the field, the start of the game, the one moment, and my one chance to make the whole team look good. I make sure that my time in the game, with the ball at my feet, is not a wasted effort. During the game I play to the whistle that the referee blows and from on the sidelines, I can hear my coach yelling last minute moves that can get me around one obstacle or another. With my actions helping the team get a step closer to wining the game. So that after the game, I can walk away with a smile on my face and a trophy in my hand knowing I did my part. It makes it worth it to try my hardest in practice and drill each other to the point that no mistakes are possible. With everything I learn in practice I am able to apply it in the game, when it is my time to shine. In the end it makes the team better than any other team we will ever meet. When I am on the field it is as if nothing else matters because I am in another world where my coach, my team, and the ball are the only things that exist..…
First time I played tennis, I was nervous because I didn`t know how to play. My brother and some of his friends who play tennis taught and showed me how to play the game. I asked myself once again, “why tennis?” Then I came to realize the benefits of playing tennis. Like I can get physical benefits from it. I thought, tennis is a great way to burn calories because, you move a lot like running and chasing the ball, swinging your racquet to hit the tennis ball. Secondly, it also has mental benefits. Our brains need to be exercised as well. I found out that playing tennis requires quick reaction mentally as well. Having to read and react to my opponent style of playing needed in order to win the game. I also love the emotional benefits, especially every time I come from stressful full time job. I have a full time job in the hospital, dealing with my patients and co-workers and have stress throughout the night because I work a graveyard shift. Many times I would go for a run or biking after work to relieve stress, but spend time reliving or planning my day. Playing tennis affords me the benefit of blocking all that out. My mind is forced to think about the game. Part of the reasons why I love playing tennis is the social interaction with other players. It provides me the ability to network with different people I don`t normally meet.…
