Why Is Technology Important In The Military
The great world of information technology is one that has forever changed life as we know it and will only continue to improve and advance our daily operations both in our personal and professional lives. I am a 25N (Nodal Network Systems Operator- Maintainer) in the United States Army, previous to this Military Occupational Specialty I was a 25F (Network Switching Systems Operator- Maintainer). These titles are merely just words to the average citizen but to us Army personnel they speak one word and one word only, technology. Although each job title holds its’ specific duties and areas of expertise, those outside our MOS see us as the computer guys. It doesn’t matter the type of communication equipment or the type of technology, when you’re …show more content…
Being active duty military it is imperative that I communicate quickly and efficiently. Generally, there’s more than just one person that needs access or knowledge of information, technology enables that to be possible. I may be working on a document or a plan and need input from someone half way around the world, a simple phone call and quick link can get the job done. Thanks to technology I can drop a link in an e-mail, and it enables someone close or far to open my document, page, plan, or anything and make the needed adjustments. The same goes for the dissemination of information, simply upload it and everything that needs and has access is able to view and become aware of the situation. The world is a quick fingertip touch away. Innovations in the mobile technology realm means that my job becomes simpler, more effective, and more efficient. The revolution has only begun and the heights are unthinkable. The military is highly dependent on technology, so much so that we ensure we have the capability to create it wherever we see fit. Whether it a stationary infrastructure or a mobile radio, if we are there, communication is there meaning technology is present. My professional life in the military would cease to exist if technology did not exist, my career is built on technology and my career will build

Obviously, we live in quite interesting times when technology is progressing but wars are still going on. It is a well-known fact that forty years ago there was basically just mail. Mapes points to the fact that nowadays there is a number of options, among them are cell phones, messengers, Internet including Skype as well as social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter (2010). Thus, the soldiers have easy access to all these services and are able to use them at any time, wherever they may be. Of course, some technical difficulties may occur. Nevertheless, it would be crazy to imagine all of this during the Vietnam War times.…

The benefits of using information technology for doing work tasks within a business, and for others, are vast. One such benefit has allowed for better communication between an organisation and others from around the world no matter where they may be. For example, Mail, images and videos can be sent around the world electronically in only a fraction of a second and for very little, if any, cost. It can actually allow people to visually communicate with each other via devices, such as tablets and mobile phones, and with the use of software on a computer, as if they were sat in front of each other in the same room. It also enables people to search for information easier and quicker via search engines, such as google. Quotes and brochures may be easily sent…

Networks of computers are the model for business information infrastructures today. Gone are the days of a single mainframe machine with terminals attached to it. Today, a business' information infrastructure consists of one or more servers that communicate with tens, hundreds, and even thousands of clients, and the explosive growth of networks drives an increasing demand for network administrators. Exceptional growth in IT jobs, including network and system administration, is widely expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Reports from the Commerce Department cite a shortage of high tech workers. The White House has recently created training programs to address the shortage. While some organizations and researchers dispute the extent of a shortage, it is widely agreed even by critics of such studies that new IT jobs are being created very rapidly. As information technology becomes ubiquitous, and even very small companies rely on it for their daily operation, the skills of system and network administration become more in demand, and more vital. I work in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Electricians Mate. Having served in the military for six years now, I’ve had the chance to see just how heavily we rely on information technology. I believe that nearly every industry has been changed drastically because of advancements in technology and cellular capabilities; however, I’ve personally only seen a few ways the Navy has been affected. The way we send day to day correspondence, how we train new sailors, and how we troubleshoot broken equipment are a few examples of some things that have become easier due to these advances.…

Technology throughout the years has really changed the way I do business and how I interact with people in my career. It was only 11 years ago when I first started in the medical device industry. Since then, the changes in Information Technology have been significant and extremely impactful. Certain changes where embraced quickly by me others caused me a struggle to adjust. When I think back I don’t even remember what it was like to live without all these technologies. In 2002, I would use pay phones to check voicemail as to save money on cellphone usage. Now, I don’t even know my corporate voicemail code or password. My customers call me on my phone directly, Text me or email because they know they’ll have direct access to me. This biggest problem with instant access is that it is difficult to shut down the communication chains and relax. I have been on vacation in an international country and I…
