Why Is Shakespeare Still Relevant Today
The question many people today ask is, “Are William Shakespeare's plays still relevant today?” The answer to that question is yes. One of the main reasons that William Shakespeare's plays are still relevant today is because they show that things that were problems back then, are also problems in today's times. Some examples of that are, how people sometimes make poor decisions when in love, how a relationship can cause conflict, and finally, how love still forms no matter the obstacle.

The first point of how Shakespeare's plays are still relevant, is how love sometimes makes people choose bad decisions. In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo drinks the poison because he thinks Juliet is dead and does not want to live without her. Romeo's love for Juliet made him make a bad decisions because Juliet had simply drunk a sleeping potion. This relates to today's relationships because someone may move in with their boyfriend or girlfriend or invest money with them, when it may just be a temporary relationship. “Here’s to my love! (drinks the poison) O true apothecary, Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (V. iiv, 29-30). Another reason that Shakespeare's plays are still relevant today, is that conflict may arise when a relationship is formed. In the story, Romeo and Juliet knew that they weren't allowed to be together. Yet, their loved caused them to want to be together even through that obstacle. This relates to nowadays, how even though a obstacle like skin color or religion is present, it doesn't stop relationships. “I have night’s cloak to hide me from their eyes, And but thou love me, let them find me here. My life were better ended by their hate Than death proroguèd, wanting of thy love.” (II. ii.
