Are PETA’s Methods Unethical
PETA is one of the largest animal rights groups in the world, its slogan is "Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.” PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. They have many supporters and are known for their very controversial protests. Although PETA is protesting for a good cause, many people argue that they are doing it the wrong way. By examining PETA’s arguments it’s clear that PETA is exactly what it is protesting against, killers. With cats, they impounded 1,211, euthanized 1,198, and found homes for only five. PETA also took in 58 other companion animals including rabbits and then killed 54 of them. PETA also wants the world to be vegetarians, this could result in people not getting the nutrients we need. If we released livestock into the wild, like they are protesting for, it could create overpopulation of some animals and result in huge imbalances in the food chain.
When the adoption rate of PETA was counted up in 2009 was found that of the 2317 dogs and cats in PETA’s shelter 99.3 percent were euthanized. In many of PETA’s protests the women protesting wear revealing costumes. They do so out in the street where many children are, it is unnecessary to dress like this. Their protest are being seen by children who can’t do anything about it, this could cause damage to their health.
An easy solution would be to stop funding PETA, you could still fight for a cause by funding the ASPCA instead. Another solution would be to for PETA to stop some of its extreme protests. They could stop targeting children and keep things at a less graphic level. If they feel it's necessary to have such graphic protests, they could have the protests at places where kids are normally seen. There is still no way to stop them from killing the animals other than stopping the
