Why Is It Important To Get A's?
Ever since I was in elementary school, I have mostly gotten A’s. Now that I am in high school, people expect me to continue getting A’s. Throughout my years of education, I barely studied. The only time I would study was when I had a heavily weighted test. Now I realized that not studying is negatively affecting my grades. The goal I would like to achieve is to raise my biology grade from a C+ to an A- by the end of the second quarter. I will raise my grade by turning in my assignments, studying my unit sheets and notes before assessments, and coming in for eagle time once every two weeks. One reason why accomplishing this goal is important to me is because if I pass this quarter with an A-, then my semester grade will end up as an A-. Another

In “Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A’s” by Brent Staples, some of the most interesting things that I noticed in the essay was the topic of how colleges are issuing more and more A’s due to an increasing consumer demand and a stiff competition from competitors. Staples states, “Some departments shower students with A’s to fill poorly attended courses that might otherwise be canceled.” It was very interesting to see how many professors feel that they must provide their students with more A’s and B’s to satisfy not just their consumer-conscious administrators, but they must also do so to avoid getting their classes canceled…

My first goal is to have a 3.0 GPA. This goal is important to me because I want to make myself stand out to colleges and make myself more attractable. So far, in completing this, I have tried to turn in every assignment that my professors are giving me and doing extra credit homework to help boost my GPA a little higher. I am also working really hard in every other class to reach my goal of getting straight A’s this semester. In order to help myself make this goal a reality, I need to attend every class, keep doing my homework, and ask for help. I will also need the help of my counselor to get myself enrolled in the appropriate classes.…

For as long as I can remember I've been determined to keep my GPA above a 3.5. This has never really been an issue for me until high school. Managing honors classes and marching band both was especially difficult. I had to become really efficient with time management to be able to do both. I also had to become better at staying in touch with my teachers and asking for help when I need it. By doing this I've been able to keep my GPA at a 3.7. My other priority for myself was getting into my school's top band by my senior year. I didn't think I would be able to for a while. I was at a disadvantage because unlike many of my peers, I didn't have a private teacher to help me. It took a lot of practice to finally make it in, especially during my junior year. I spent months working on my audition. This year I've finally made it in. Not only that but I've also made the All City band this year. I've come a long way in the past for years and I still have further to go. Thanks to these past few years I know I have the tools I need to keep getting…

I intend to study two hours for every one hour of lecture time. This will ensure I am doing enough to do well in said class. I plan to take clearer notes, this makes it easier to look at and picture in my head during the exam. I also plan on reading more of the textbooks and assigned…

I can achieve this goal by finishing my work and turning it in on time. I can also do extra work or decorations so that I can get extra credit. Another way that I can achieve this goal is by always do my very best on an assignment. I can double check things, add more to an assignment, or do something more advanced that could get me an A. If I can do this for the rest of the year, I could get all A’s for third and fourth quarter. Plus when everything is double-checked and decorated nicely, then I can edit it and have a good assignment completed. All I have to do is give my absolute best on every assignment and project. That is how I can accomplish this…

Schools are similar to jobs. The boss expects the employees to remain on task and finish their work sufficiently while students are expected to work hard and also complete their work with effort. If schools really want students to succeed, shouldn’t they be paid? Schools want the students to be diligent to learn the criteria. By paying students with money, schools can encourage good behavior. If schools want students to be motivated and learn the curriculum, then they should pay students for their grades. Schools should pay students for their grades because it will teach them about the real world, level out the playing field, and raise graduation rates.…

Just as it is not feasible to have students stand in line to share learning tools such as a pencil, paper, notebook, book, etc, it also doesn’t make sense for them to share a laptops. Students often need to work at their own pace in their own way. Laptops become a student’s assistant for thinking, drawing, writing, reading, analyzing, calculating, connecting, collaborating, producing, researching, presenting, and more. This does not occur if they are given only isolated pockets of time or have to wait until someone else is done. Their laptops provide anytime/anywhere on-demand access to information, thinking, learning, experts, collaboration, creativity and knowledge and more. As one student put it clearly, "When I can't use my laptop, I feel like a part of my brain is missing." Today's collaboration does not occur with two students sitting at one laptop. It occurs with students using their own learning stations collaborating and connecting with like-minded people, inputing, discussing, interacting, simultaneously not one at a time. Furthermore, those people they are interacting with are not just the student next to them, but could be a student, adult, or expert any where in the world.…

    The Causes of Poor Grades

First, the immediate cause of poor grades is not doing one’s work or waiting until the last minute to do assignments. Doing coursework is very important to achieving better grades. For example, if someone is taking an algebra class and doesn’t do the in class or homework assignment for his or her benefit, it would be very hard to get a better understanding of the lesson. If a student waits until the last minute to complete an assignment and doesn’t understand anything he or she just did, this could be a serious problem for one, especially if there’s a big test coming up. I used to have a big problem with waiting to the last minute to do an essay until I started seeing how procrastinating affects my thinking process and my grades.…

    Importance of Grades

While learning to tie shoes, children get encouragement and feedback when they first start. No one assesses their progress, they just try to help them learn to do it on their own. People learn things all the time without being graded or ranked, so where does the obsession with grades in school come from? Some would argue that not grading students on assignments they have completed will improve the quality of learning, while others believe it gives students the option to opt-out of somethings they may find more difficult. Others believe that grades predetermine how successful one may be in a post-secondary setting. Although, the problem with grading is that it is subjective to many outside inflences such as conflicting personalities, favouritism and difference in marking styles. All students learn differently as all teachers mark differently. By abolishing marks, are we setting up more students for failure or for success?…
