Why Is Horsemanship Important To Me

Most children acquire the same hair color or the same face shape as their family, but I inherited after something much greater; horsemanship skills, a work ethic, and gratitude. These characteristics are the principles that helped me work and want more out of my life. My grandfather was an acumen with horses in addition, he spent his long life professionally racing and training harness horses. I am humble to say he’s in the Harness Horse Hall of Fame. I truly believe I was blessed with the horsemanship he once had and I’m determined to live up to his talents and success. I was always drawn to horses at a young age. However, I didn’t start working with horses until I was 8 years old. Horses were so effortless to me, whether it’s on the back of a thousand plus pound animal with a mind of it’s own or evaluating a stifle problem a horse may have. Healing injuries a horse develops and making the horse feel better, gives me the most pleasure out of life. Evaluating and solving a problem to a horse's sound issue isn't just a science it’s an art form that many don’t have the patience to master.
Coming from a lower middle class family and owning a horse (very expensive) I had to work for everything I have today. Nothing was ever handed to me. My horse and I didn’t spend hours at the trainers getting ready for a horse show, nor did my mother and father do everything for me. My mother pushed me out of my contentment. By her doing this it made me a confident and determined person today. She had me take a college public speaking class that was out of my norm but it matured me greatly. My father taught me gratitude. His life threatening health problems informed me that in a second your whole world can alter around you. He taught me to never take anyone or anything for granted. I appreciate everything I have because of him. My parents gave me the foundations to become the decent human being I am
