Why Is Courage Important For Survival
Fear is a mood that could control actions. It increases paranoia, stress and doubt. There is no way to make fear disappear but there is a way to fight it with courage. Courage is a way to solve problems while in fear. Courage is key for survival because it saves lives, it keeps people focused on the task at hand, It takes away negativity and it can make fears less fearful.
The first reason why courage is key is because it saves lives. Not only it saves lives of the person surviving, but it saves his or her peers also in the dangerous situation. For example in the story The Seventh Man Two children witness a horrible typhoon which put him in a dangerous situation. The kids were playing by the beach when one of the kids saw the storm coming. Instead of informing his friend that the typhoon was about to hit them he runs away and his friend sadly dies from the giant wave. “Instead of helping him I found myself running away from him.” this is was the kids words that he wrote in the story. Courage could have saved that kid, but fear took control of the friend that should have saved him.
There are other ways courage can help during dangerous situations. Focus is a vital part of survival and if

The story was called The Voyage of the “James Caird” and most of the survivors were suffering from frostbite, injuries or sickness. Even with all of these struggles everyone had to do their part and help the team. “The carpenter was struggling particular, but he showed grit and spirit” explained one of the members of the ship about a carpenter on their ship. This shows positivity of the member of the ship that even though that he is struggling he knows he is going to get home. This is courage, if he was fearful he would doubt being able to get home. Doubt is bad because it could bring the survivor down and the team down. Positivity takes courage but it is

Nelson Mandela once said, "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." He also learned that courage is the ability to stay strong through adverse situations. The characters in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird are courageous. The novel tells the story of how the Finch family overcame a predicament that emerged from racial discrimination. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is disgraced for defending a black man who is accused of raping a white woman. This causes his children, Jem and Scout, to also face hostility. “Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway, “ says Dr. Robert Anthony. What is the definition of courage? It doesn’t exactly mean to be fearless about something, but to not let fear stop you from doing it. Courage can have a positive effect because it helps people to achieve their dreams and creates the opportunity for amazing things to happen. Everyone has different opinions, though, and some people think of courage in a negative way. For example, some people who have gained the courage to do very dangerous things have gotten themselves killed, or seriously injured. However, something positive came out from that result, and things happen for a reason. The fact that those people were brave enough to even attempt something…

Heroes aren’t brave because they have no fear, but because they are willing to overcome that fear. The denotation of courage is ‘the ability to do something that frightens one.’ A hero doesn’t display courage if he isn’t fearful of his circumstances or the actions he must take. The triumph over fear, overcoming something hard, dangerous, or frightening, is what shows bravery. Willingly going against fear-no matter how big it is-to rescue, save, or bring justice, is heroic. The former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” A cowardice may seem to have the simple way out, being subject to backing out and not having to face difficult situations, however, the act of bravery bears more fruit in character. While a coward reaps nothing more than a failure mentality, a hero-someone brave- overcomes fear and grows a mentality of endurance. After shying away from trials, a coward sees that he can’t do strenuous work (or won’t) and doesn’t try again, but a brave man sees that he can overcome hard things and is encouraged to jump over more hurdles.…

To begin with courage is something you can portray when standing up for what you believe in . For instance in the novel Atticus was the rare symbol of courage in maycomb . Atticus defending the Tom Robinson case despite what anyone else in the community had to say . Atticus was not only being courageous by defending the case but because he stood up for what he believed in not only for himself but to set an example for his children . " Because I could never ask you to mind me again scout simply by the nature of the work every lawyer gets at least one case that affects him personally this ones mines I guess. You might hear some ugly talk about it at school , but do one thing for me if you will : you just hold your head high and keep those fists down . No matter what anybody says to you don't .let em get your host try fighting with your head for a change " ( page 76 ) . This quote exhibits Atticus coming to term with the fact that he's going to have to turn the other cheek and not let their foolishness get to him.…

    Courage in the Crucible

“Courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome,” is a quote that is very true. The dictionary definition of courage is “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc.” I think a perfect example of this thought would be a recent high school graduate joining the military. With wars raging all over the world, a solider is almost guaranteed to be on the front line. A young man or woman who has their whole life ahead of them, to look forward to, has to have a lot of courage to face the gruesome challenges of a military life. Nobody knows what this life is like until it’s you in this position. I am sure the challenges of this job are both difficult and fearsome in more than one way. These people have to have lots of courage to put themselves in this position. Police officers also have to have this courage to risk their lives every day to protect citizens of the community from danger. Firemen have the courage to go into a burning building to save other people. This would be very fearsome and a difficult task to do. Doctors, pilots, and just regular people face problems that involve courage. There are many more examples of this. These are just some of the reasons I believe that the statement “Courage means doing something even though it can be difficult and fearsome,” is…

Some courage helps you to do simple, everyday affairs, other courage can help you to face your fears, and the rest of courage helps you to do extraordinary things. An example of having courage to do simple affairs would maybe be to stand up for the new kid even though it might not make you seem cool. Having courage to face your fears might be to conquer your Arachnophobia by squishing a spider or to conquer your fear of heights by skydiving. Having courage to run into a burning building and save a baby even at the cost of your life is a great example of having courage to do something extraordinary. One of my favorite examples of being courageous is the story of David and Goliath from the Bible. The story says that David was only a young shepherd boy who had no military training whatsoever and went up to Goliath, who was considered a giant of his time and the best Philistine warrior, with only five smooth pebbles and a sling. David also went up to the Philistine with the courage that God would help protect himself against Goliath. When David stopped, he confronted Goliath then slung one pebble at Goliath, sinking it deep into Goliath’s forehead, which knocked him out, and then he killed him and chopped off his head. This all happened just because David had courage and trusted in God. This story would be a good example of having courage to do extraordinary things.…
