Why Is Charlie Gordon Important In Flowers For Algernon
Charlie Gordon showed us that surgerys are very risky and we should really think before we do risky things. In the science fiction story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keys, Charlie has a passion to get intelligent but in my perspective the surgery was useless and risky. Charlie Gordon should not have had the Artificial Intelligence surgery because i was risky and it wasn't permanent. Charlie Gordon lost his friends because of the AL surgery. His “friends” didn't like how smart he get and I guess they were scared. They all signed a petition and he was fired. In the book he said “They’ve driven me out of the factory. Now i’m more alone than ever before…” I think he must have been very sad to find out his friends weren't really his friends.

It would just wear off eventually and charlie would forget everything he learns.To me it would just be a disappointment. In the story charlie says, “They said you know it will probably be temporary.” i think the worst thing wa he fell in love, but when the AI surgery wore off, he forgot and made Mrs. Kinnian really sad. Students are always saying, well it gave him an imagination. Well he did get an imagination-exactly what he wanted. But like I said, it wasn't even permanent. He would only have an imagination for a small time, then it would go away and he would be old charlie Gordon. Another reason, wouldn't you be sad if u got what u wanted but only for a week? I would be upset! For example, what if you got a brand new phone, but you only got it for a week and then you had to bring it back to a store forever? I don't know about you, but i wouldn't be happy! Charlie showed us that the surgery was a failure and extremely risky for something that's not going to work anyways. Because of the surgery, Charlie lost his job, his friends and most importantly, it was useless and wasn’t even permanent. Going through that much at once must have been a lot for a him and his friends. Now, knowing what things could happen, if you were in Charlie's place would you take the Artificial Intelligence
