Why Is Animal Cruelty Wrong
Cruelty to animals, also called animal abuse, animal neglect or simply animal cruelty, is both the unintentional and the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, regardless of whether the act is against the law. In this essay I will show you how animal abuse isn’t right.

Awareness of animal cruelty and harsher sentences for those convicted has become increasingly important in the last few states. Many law schools now offer specific courses on the subject, all 50 states have animal cruelty felony provisions when only four had such penalties in 1986, and the FBI just this year started collecting data on arrests for animal cruelty, which was previously lumped into the “other crimes” category. Dogfighting is a type of blood sport in which dogs are forced to fight for the entertainment and/or profit of spectators. Dog fighting is one of the most heinous forms of animal cruelty. Fighting dogs are typically raised in isolation, so they spend most of their lives on short, heavy chains.     There are many ways in which people tend to abuse of animals. An example is neglect, meaning that between a pet and the owner there is a “failure to provide an animal with the most basic of requirements of food, water, shelter and veterinary care” (What). Dogfighting is another example. Dogfights are events when two dogs are put inside a fighting pit and are forced to fight until the other one is dead or is too weak to fight back.     Dogs are raised in isolation and spend most of their lives in heavy metal chains. Some dogs are fed anabolic steroids to receive more muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness. In some cases narcotic drugs are even fed to them to make them more aggressive. Dogs have their tails cut short and ears cropped to have less chance of another dog grabbing at it during a fight. The worse part is the dogs have their tail and ears cut by their cruel unprofessional owner. During a fight, dogs are contained in a 14 by 20 square-foot pit. Dog fighting can last from a few minutes to several hours. Dogs can suffer from blood loss, broken bones, puncture wounds, and crashing injuries. Dog fighting is not always to the death however, if you are the losing dog it does not look splendid for you.
