I was very passionate about intellectual debates as well as learning about different sociological theories and research. A turning point in my interest in conflict and conflict resolution was when I experienced tremendous conflict and violence in Nepal, where I was born and raised. The political armed conflict in Nepal from 1996 to 2006, which killed about seventeen thousand people, most whom were innocent, deeply saddened me and affected my life. In 2007, Nepalese conflict shifted from violent conflict to nonviolent conflict, where the United Nations played a mediating role. Now, Nepal is experiencing post conflict settlement crisis. I also had an opportunity to work with the UN for a few years in Nepal, when the international agency played a role as a mediator in the peace process. These lived witnesses of the conflict, working experiences, and current global conflicts have driven me to pursue a degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. After moving to the US, I had many challenges; however, my determination and hard work inspired me to go back to school. I started out as ESL student, but never gave up on my dream to attain a BA.
