Why I Want To Rollerblade In My Free Time
A little known fact about me is that I like to rollerblade in my spare time. I do not play hockey and I do not do anything with it beyond the fact that I just like it. Even though it is typically seen as unusual for someone like myself I enjoy it because it is can helps me in many ways. If I am feeling down or stressed out the feeling of freedom and relief of gliding along can take my mind off anything. If I need a workout I can go from just a relaxing cruise to a tough workout anytime. I have not had the chance to do it in a while due to poor weather and the extensive amount of time wrestling takes up. However, as soon as its warm and I have the time, it is a sure bet that I will be out there as much as possible. Overall I would like …show more content…
My most common errors are in punctuation and it is something that I want to improve for two reasons. The first is to just improve my writing and the second leads into my second goal for the semester, get a 30 or higher on the ACT. When I took it in the fall I got a 28 and I can definitely improve that to at least a 30 if I put in the work to better understand some simple writing mechanics. My third goal of the semester is to stay on schedule and get all of my papers turned in on time. In the past I have not had a problem with it but the last two papers of my last writing class, College Prep, were both late and I want to make sure I do not fall behind again. My fourth goal is to raise my GPA back to a 4.0. In my freshman year it was well over 4.0 but in my sophomore year it dropped to under 3.5. Last semester I began returning to form with a 3.7 but I definitely want to get back up to a 4.0 so I can finish high school with at least a 3.8 cumulative GPA. My final goal is to write at least one paper this semester that I really care about. As I mentioned before, writing is best when it is about something important. To often I find myself writing a paper just to do it for the grade or to get it done, but this semester I want to write a paper that really means

Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

My writing process has greatly changed throughout the course of this class. Starting at the beginning in August, I came into class rather cocky. I did not take the time to go over all of Dr. Trollinger’s comments on my rough draft and make multiple drafts. I was a victim of extreme procrastination. I had always excelled as an English / Rhetoric student in high school so I just assumed it would be a breeze. This was not the case. I completely and totally tanked the first paper. Because of this, I decided to greatly alter my writing process. This decision extremely benefited my future papers. I, now, take time to go over each and every draft, marking my mistakes as I go. I start papers rather early so I can take the paper piece by piece, reworking as I go. On each draft, Dr. T turns back, I print them out and write out what I need and don’t need to do. This has…

I started figure skating when I was 8 years old. I went to a birthday party at an ice rink, and signed up for skating shortly after. More advanced skaters filled the middle of the rink, doing spins and jumps. I fell in love the sport. I like how it was good for both summer and the winter. The feeling of you gliding around the ice in fun-filled strokes was amazing. My classes were amusing and I loved learning new things.…

Writing in journals for class or writing stories for entertainment proved to be great fun. The writing level of elementary and middle school was easy to learn and work with. Arriving in high school, I felt confident in my writing skills. High school level writing proved to be more challenging. After English I, I felt unprepared for the rest of my high school writing experience. I grew to become uninterested in writing for the next two years. I procrastinated finishing any writing assignment I was given. Though I received decent grades on my assignments, I could have received better grades had I not procrastinated writing my assignments. My attitude toward writing has changed from disinterested to excited with my Composition I and II classes. I have learned much in the first semester of this course and I have grown to enjoy writing again because of this…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

In my First-Week Essay my writing skills were somewhat better than I had expected them to be. For the most part my writing skills were adequate; however, I did have some areas where they were very good and others where they were developing. My two main areas that needed development were punctuation and effective transitions. The problems with my punctuation were the proper use of commas and semi-colons. Some of the mistakes with commas was the absence of them. One sentence in which I omitted two commas is: “no matter how much practice I have with writing[,] I still feel like I need more[,] or I need to try different techniques.” I had looked over the need of the commas in the sentence because I had thought that the sentence was fine without the two commas. After reading back through my essay, specifically the sentence I mentioned previously, I realized that the commas were necessary in order to have an effective sentence. In my next essay I was able to fix my punctuation errors but I encountered other difficulties instead.…

My sophomore year English composition class was very different from my freshman year. As opposed to my freshman year, my new teacher told us that he would grade us more on our creativity than on our grammar. Since my teacher told us to focus on our creativity more than anything else, the focus of my writing changed to trying to express myself to my best ability. Because of this new focus, my grammar suffered greatly, but I became better at the things that this teacher made us focus on. It did not take much to earn an “A” in creativity and because of this, I became very lazy. I would type four page papers the night before the essay was due, and I would be happy with a “B”. I would often debate putting in the extra work to reach for an “A”, but since I was lazy, that internal debate would never last very long. I fell back into my bad habits of repeating my words and thoughts’ and my awful middle school…
