Why I Want To Pursue A Career In Dentistry
Working for six years as a dental assistant at Plainview Oral gave me valuable hands-on experience and knowledge where I will be better prepared for the dentistry field. During that time, I had the privilege of having a mentor, Dr. Bass, an oral surgeon, who took the time to explain the surgeries and his techniques. This influenced my decision to pursue a career in dentistry. Demonstrating kindness and care while working with patients in everyday situations is what gives me satisfaction. Many patients have thanked me for my professional bedside manner before, during, and after surgery. Additionally, I will contribute to the community by helping others and making dental care easy and comfortable. I look forward to alleviating pain and calming

    One of the deep cleaning I observed was a patient with infection. I was extremely surprised to see the patient bleed during the cleaning. I think that visiting the dentist on a regular basis is very important because he or she keep their teeth clean and healthy. I could realize many patients discovered about their teeth’s condition through cleaning. I was able to see Dr. Sim perform many root canals, crowning teeth, and filling cavities during three days. Through shadowing I learned that being a dentist and dental hygienist are a very important position with lots of responsibility to their patients. It was time to learn again how important trusts between the doctor and patients.     In five or so years I hope to be settled into a job as a dental hygienist. Preferably a job in Rutherford county or surrounding areas. I became interested in the career field in high school after speaking to the hygienist at my dentist office. She was extremely supportive and truthful about what to expect out of this career path. I have also completed 40 hours of job shadowing that have also given me information on what to expect.
