Why I Want To Be An Ra
1.
When I first moved in, I was extremely nervous. I did not know what it would be like to live by myself. I did not know if I would meet people or really anything. When my parents first left, I met my RA and then a bunch of the other RAs just through conversations in the dining hall. They were all so helpful, telling me the ins and outs of both Newman and also the University. Between what classes to take and what groups to join at Newman, they taught me everything. But most importantly, they let me know that I belonged here and made me feel welcome. I know what it is like first coming to college, since I just lived it, and I want to be able to help next year’s freshman with that transition like the RAs this year did.

More importantly, on a personal level, being an RA will help me be a better overall person and get to know more people. Being an RA would give me so many more chances to help other people through making people feel included and welcome, giving advice and helping with problems, and just being there to make people feel better. Newman has already helped my faith life, and I think that being there to help others in all those ways would make me a better person as well. Being an RA would also give me another opportunity to live at Newman and meet so many more amazing people, like I did this year, either fellow RAs or just the wonderful residents of …show more content…
An RA is responsible for making sure everyone feels welcome both in the hall and in church, since everyone is welcome in God’s eyes. Another part of building that community is having the RAs be a resource for people who are struggling. We can’t all be great Catholics all the time, but when we struggle it is helpful to have a resource to help us out. It is important as an RA to be there for others, so that if they are struggling with their faith, they can be there for them. Finally, an RA can also do things to promote the faith, including faith based activities, like prayer groups, or just getting their floor to go to mass together. Practicing the faith together improves everyone’s faith life and an RA can really help with

I’m looking forward to acquiring new skills and strategies to apply, not only in my pursuit of higher education, but in every aspect of my life. I’ve always been an avid learner, ready to soak up information and knowledge every chance I get. Learning new things has been a major interest of mine for as long as I can remember, which is saying allot, because I actually have a few memories from when I was a toddler. Throughout my early years in school, I was a straight A student who picked up on everything right away. My love of acquiring and sharing knowledge continues to grow as time passes.…

As a student I will be able to bring some unique and diverse perspectives to Grand Valley. Early on in my life, my family decided to take in foster children. This has allowed me to become a more compassionate and accepting person to others. It also led me to discover that I wanted to peruse a career in child psychology. Another perspective I can bring deals with my involvement in theater. I have been involved in theater ever since I was in third grade. Theater allowed me to discover something I was truly passionate about and find myself. In high school I decided to give up sports and focus on theater instead. This was a very hard decision because I was the only person in my school who was involved in theater. This decision though has made me…

My dream for the next four years is to achieve a Physician Assistant degree at St. John’s University. As I transition to college from high school, I understand how there is no one in the world besides myself to help me reach my goal and it will require hard work as well as motivation to reach that point. At times, I feel overwhelmed with the struggles that arise in achieving my degree, but that would not stop me from my main point in coming to this school. I am able to connect my experience to the experience the Nolan’s and my dad went through when it was their time to achieve their dreams. I find it to be very lucky to go to school in New York because I am already one step ahead of my game to fulfill my target since New York is the place where there are many opportunities for everyone. Hence, having a motivated outlook on life, everything that is impossible will be…

Understanding that college is a time of both personal and educational growth, I positively anticipate many things. As an undergrad, I will join organizations and activities while participating actively in them. For academic and language enrichment, I aspire to travel to a Latin American country to study abroad. Also, I aim to be successful in my studies while balancing them with a part-time job. As a result of my hardwork and progression, I desire to obtain an internship as I network with area professionals. Besides focusing on my education, I look forward to finding my purpose. That being said, I am a firm believer that everyone is on this Earth to serve a purpose. As I nurture my skillset and zero in on my interests I look forward to discovering what position within business I am here to serve in. Ultimately, I am excited utilize the next four years of my life to have experiences that I will look back on in 30 years and be proud of having…

I continued to build on this by becoming a student ambassador, where I spend either 4 hours or even the entire night with a prospective student, showing them the campus and all of the glorious opportunities here. As a result of this personal growth, I was privileged to be selected as one of the inaugural shift leaders at Alumni Gym. I am now one of the point-men for any questions or concerns relating to the gym. By becoming an RA I hope to continue this personal growth, becoming more and more well-versed and meeting more and more people on Union’s campus. Additionally, I will be gaining critical skills that I believe will enable me to be successful in life particularly being a leader around students that are either my age or not much older or younger. I anticipate many issues, especially relating to having to be the smart person when my peers are being unintelligent and ensuring the safety of everyone else in my building and around campus. However, in order to grow, one must be faced with challenges, and it is how that individual confronts those challenges that determine how that individual will grow. The leadership opportunity that the RA position provides not only will provide me with immense growth, but will allow me to…

Attending the Pride friday at IUPUC before the beginning of school has been one of the most helpful events. By going to this I met some friends and learned more about the school itself. Although I have made the choice not to stay at IUPUC all four years of my college career, being here my first semester has started me off great. During this event they spoke of how we start and end our four years in the same way. I am just glad I have been able to enjoy my first semester by making some new friends, learning new strategies to working and figuring my life out.…

The first step to constructing something is always the foundation. My freshman year will be the foundation for the continuation of my college education and experience. This year will be a clean state, an empty container, a fresh beginning. I have the opportunity to gratify it with whatever I desire in hopes of enriching my persona. My initial week of college, I will be presented with an amalgam of opportunities and organizations to become involved with varying from Greek life to intramural rugby to student government. I plan on going through the recruitment process in the fall to become a member of a sorority. A common misapprehension about joining a sorority is that you are purchasing your friends; conversely this is not the case. A sorority is a wonderful organization to get involved…
