Being an athlete in college means you contribute about 40 hours to your sport. They have a full time college schedule with studying, mandatory classes, and let’s not forget practice. According to an article, “If the average NCAA college football player in division one spends over 40 hours a week on their game, then they are working the same amount as those in full time employment do”(Listland 1). Since 40 hours are dedicated to the game, that takes up a lot of time in schedules. The athletes also have to take mandatory classes and have time to study. So this raises the question, why spend so much time doing a sport and not get paid? According to Enno, “These athletes are practicing on half of the day and going to…

The first reason I think college football players should get paid is that they spend more at football than an average job. An average hours for a job is 33.3 hours a week. For football you spend an average of 43 hours a week (Forbes). It is a lot harder for football players to maintain good grades because they miss a lot classes.…

College football should think about the rules of the NCAA another way. The NFL makes football players wait three years after graduating high school before entering the draft (Bayless). With such a tight hold on players from the NCAA, means no income for players in that time frame. Outside of room, board, and tuition players should be able to receive payment of some sort. Scholarships looks really great to the outside eye, but scholarships in the market today isn’t worth the same as it was in past decades.…

$53.4 Million the combined salary of the top 15 paid coaches in division 1 college football, $0 the combined salary of all student-athletes. Over the past few decades, college athletics have gained popularity across the United States. Whether it is football, basketball, or baseball, ever since the turn of the century, intercollegiate sports have brought in a surplus of revenue to their respective Universities. A recent study found that the University of Texas’ Athletic Program had the highest revenue of any other University at a little over $120 million. Yet with this large sum of money, NO college athletes are legally compensated for their work. According to NCAA rules, “You are not eligible for participation in a sport if you have ever: Taken pay or the promise of pay, for competing in that sport”. While it may seem odd and unjust to pay college athletes, the reality is that compensation of such athletes is a necessity not only to keep competition at a steady level in college athletics, but also to encourage students to graduate and get their college degrees.…
