Why I Want To Be A Band Director
The world is filled with extraordinarily beautiful places, but very rarely are such locations found by those who reject their artistic side. Amongst a society filled with mundane and gray individuals, the world of music is frequently overlooked and underappreciated. Many claim that a career in music leads nowhere, and that nobody has ever been truly moved by working with music. Well, I for one reject this overgeneralization and choose to pursue my passion; becoming a middle or high school band director. My goal in this paper is to illustrate the educational requirements, financial earnings, potential job advancements, travel opportunities, and ability to compromise that define many exceptional band directors.

The answer is that music classes in general go on far more trips than other classes. For instance, almost every Friday evening during the fall, the OHS marching band went to play at football games. Not only that, but we also had the opportunity to travel to El Paso for our TMEA marching contest my junior year! Beyond marching season, band directors can request a large scale summer trip that students and parents alike may attend. The students’ families pay for their own expenses, but the band directors go for free! (Assuming they have made a name for themselves in their district first.) An example of this is the huge trip to Hawaii this past summer break. Members of all the organizations went on this exotic adventure, including band, orchestra, choir, harp, guitar, and dance. So, no being a band director does not mean taking root in one town for eternity. Instead, it opens up a multitude of travelling opportunities that many other career paths …show more content…
