Why I Love Golf Essay
I love golf. To me the sport is one where I have found struggles and accomplishments on and off the golf course. I am part of The First Tee of Nassau County, where I teach children and learn more about how to play golf. The First Tee of Nassau County teaches children of all ages life skills and golf skills that if understood can be used throughout one’s whole life in an array of ways. I have learned how to think over my actions and choices on the golf course or in my community through the First Tee’s acronym STAR. The acronym stands for stop, think, anticipate, and respond. I learned and taught this acronym at the birdie level, an intermediate, and beginner level class. I started going to the First Tee when I eight years old. I first learned how to play golf when I was four years old with my grandfather in his living room. He had …show more content…
The reason for this is like how my life and in a colloquial way life has ups and downs; the golf course is physically hilly, but also every hole on the course is a different hole with different challenges. I will not score the same on every hole. One hole I will birdie and then one I will double bogie. Golf is stressful in the fact that I can score the best I ever have one day and then the very next day I will have a disaster of a day on the golf course. Golf for me is accepting the worst days and striving to improve as much as possible in the time I have to have fun playing the game. Also golf connects with my life in an unusual way. When I am struggling with school friends, or homework, or being bullied by others; I put a surplus of energy and focus into my golf game. Ironically my golf game improves when I am feeling distraught and thus makes me feel better. Golf also is a securing link for friends and family for me. I have bolstered my relationships on the golf course through the game being a social sport where I can talk while I

After reading Night Hoops, I have developed a new mindset on how I should pursue my goals no matter what impediments obstruct my ability to reach them. Nick, the protagonist, always dreamt of earning his spot on his high school’s varsity basketball team, but his road to the team was filled with family troubles; being overshadowed by his older brother, Scott; and run-ins with Trent, the local bully. However, Nick persevered through it all and accomplished his goal of making the varsity basketball team. Over the past few years, I have been extremely dedicated to becoming the best golfer I can be. However recently, I have lost my enthusiasm for the game. Because of this, I feel like I can relate to Nick and although he is a fictional character, use him as inspiration to rededicate myself to the game of golf.…

My shoulders blazed from the beating sun and my palms were sweaty. I walked confidently toward the green as the other athletes were waiting on me. I was playing toward what looked like an amateur's ideal score, a 45. It was the first home golf match of the year, and I could not afford to score any higher than my goal. I had to make sure my mind didn’t mess up more shots than my body.…

By the fifth hole, anger continued to steadily flow throughout my body, not giving a hoot about my round at this point, only caring about the event htat had previously took place. My father quietly pulled me aside, and pronounced, "How do you think your playing right now?" "Who care's, the tournaments over." "That's just not true, Anthony." "I brought you out here today so you could have fun and experience your first competition, I don't care if you end up with one-thousand strokes. All I care about is if you have fun and leave all of your effort on the golf course." "I see." "Okay, now come on, let's play some golf and have fun." After making my first par on hole six. With each passing breeze I remember the humidity, but continue to practice to distract myself from the outside world. After 45 minutes I decided to play a few holes. The sun is now beginning to fully go down over the horizon and a once bright yellow turned into a pink orange color. I realize I am going to have to run to finish at least 4 holes. The next 4 holes consist of attentive hits of the ball and carless running to my last shot. My thoughts consist of worrying about the sunlight and where my ball could possibly be. As I come closer to the end the once humid air has now turned into a consistent summer night breeze and the bugs specifically the cicadas have begun to create sympathy of noise around me. As I turn back to the clubhouse my worries from before have left me and now all I can think about is my hits and misses. I would much rather me graced with these worries then the ones of the outside world. Not looking at my phone for an hour and getting outside in the great fields of grass to me is the most therapeutic location in the world. Whenever I have major issues on my mind I will always have the golf course to help me forget my problems that truly don’t…

From the moment of birth, I was destined to grow up and enjoy the beautiful game called “Soccer.” I grew up in a typical Italian household. As a child I was only spoken to in Italian and grew up living in the same house as my grandmother. My parents were both born in Italia, making me a first generation Canadian. Unlike most kids my age, who are second generation Canadians, I had to learn everything from the start. I had to learn to follow the Canadian traditions for the generations to come, but also be able to keep my Italian heritage proud. Italians are known mostly for their variety of food and cooking, along with their sense of style, but if you ask any Italian to describe something about their heritage, there is no doubt that the beautiful game of “soccer” will be mentioned.…
