Third, I am pretty good at basketball. Also, it is what I want to do when I grow up. Fifth, all of my family like the game. Basketball is a very breath-taking sport to play. It draws others closer to their friends, and makes them realize who can really play a good game, or who is an unfair player in most cases. Another thing I like about basketball is that we don't only need friends or relatives to play against. We can play individually by ourselves. It can also be easier to learn when by yourself because we can teach ourselves certain tricks rather than copying from a friend. What's also cool about this sport is that you can play almost anywhere, indoors and outdoors, on a road, your driveway, the park, school, even at parties.…

"Apurva! Hurry up, let's go, stop playing around!" After Sunday school it was customary for the youth group to do community service together, however I never really liked to participate, instead I preferred to play basketball. While everyone was assigned a specific task on a weekly basis, I was never the person who cared about what I did. They would call me from where they were working, to get my attention. I heard them and chose to ignore them, because I figured that playing basketball would be more fun. However, It had never occurred to me that maybe I was not doing what I needed to do as someone my age or was not as involved as my peers. This changed when one of my friends approached me and told me that if I love to play sports, and I’m good with the younger teens. Which gave me an idea to start organizing youth sport…

I have been playing basketball basically my whole life, it is has shaped me into the person I am today. I started with just a ball and a hoop in my cousins front yard. I would just chuck the ball at hoop for fun, horsing around with my cousins. In elementary and middle school I would play with my friends at recess shooting around, dribbling in circles for the fun of it. I was even better then most of the boys who would play with my group on the courts. When I entered high school that was when I realized I was truly in love with the game. High school was where it was taken to a whole 'nother level. I was introduced to the real dynamics of the sport, it was where I learned that if I really want to do something that I love I had to put my all into it. I had to prove that I was one-hundred percent committed to the game. Practicing everyday for two hours, and…

Since I was 7 years old, basketball has played an integral part of my life. I have devoted countless hours to not just a sport, but a passion, an outlet; to the game that I love. When I arrived at Bow Middle School as a fifth grader, my classmates and I would always look up to the 7th and 8th grade middle school basketball teams. Every year during winter carnival, the boys and girls teams would play a game in front of the entire school. Playing in that game became a dream and a goal of mine, but first I would need to make the team. For three years I developed my basketball skills, using my passion for the sport and desire to play in that game as motivation. When tryouts for basketball in 8th grade drew near, I knew I was ready. However a new coach would be at the helm this year. Our new basketball coach was also a coach for the youth football program. This resulted in numerous football…

I have many hobbies, but I like basketball the most. Basketball is like my best friend. The first time I played it, I felt interested. I was so interested in playing basketball after watching my brother play, however, I started learning when I was 9 years old. So I kept doing it. Even if I didn't win, my coaches alway said "You can't win, unless you learn how to lose." When I was in 5th grade my brother inspired me to do that. I…

From the moment of birth, I was destined to grow up and enjoy the beautiful game called “Soccer.” I grew up in a typical Italian household. As a child I was only spoken to in Italian and grew up living in the same house as my grandmother. My parents were both born in Italia, making me a first generation Canadian. Unlike most kids my age, who are second generation Canadians, I had to learn everything from the start. I had to learn to follow the Canadian traditions for the generations to come, but also be able to keep my Italian heritage proud. Italians are known mostly for their variety of food and cooking, along with their sense of style, but if you ask any Italian to describe something about their heritage, there is no doubt that the beautiful game of “soccer” will be mentioned.…

Basketball: my dreams, my life, my passion. Of course I had interest in several other sports (baseball and soccer being the two larger ones), but none held my interest the way basketball did. Even when I was just a young boy, the game of basketball fascinated me and, ultimately, captured my heart. Growing up, I didn’t understand how much the game could have affected my life. Now, I want to coach to share my knowledge and love of basketball to positively affect other people’s lives.…

Gorham was, and still is, a town full of talented athletes. My mother was a natural, I however, didn't get that gene, unfortunately. I have seen her basketball scrapbook with all of these old, oranged newspaper clippings showing her with her short poofy hair down as she dribbled the ball, or her being guarded by someone a foot taller than her. She was inducted to the GHS Sports Hall of Fame a few years ago.…
