Why Gum Should Be Allowed In School
Imagine you are sitting in a classroom and you are trying to focus on a really important test that could improve your grade, but there are just too many distractions happening around you? Well, could chewing gum be the answer? Chewing gum can not only help you focus, but improve your memory and other academic abilities as well, prevent tooth decay , and other health benefits at the same time. All these reasons will add up to make sure you can do you best in and out of school.

One reason why gum should be allowed to be chewed at students’ disposal, is because of it’s ability to help kids focus. Many students become very bored as class goes on, especially during independent work. Popping in a piece of gum will put a nice refreshing flavor in their mouth, and the chewing of the gum will most likely not make them tired, slouchy, or bored. According to Andrew Scholey from the University of Swinburne, gum chewing can help you focus because of the fact that gum flows insulin inside your brain which then enhances learning and memory capabilities. A study by The “American Society of Nutrition” showed that over the course of 14 weeks, students that chewed gum had a 3% increase in test scores than students that didn’t chew gum. More evidence proved by the preliminary researches suggests the fact that gum chewing gum can increase tests scores because the fact that when you are chewing gum it makes your heart pump more blood than it usually does to your brain. The blood being flowed to your brain carries oxygen which will help your brain function better. Finally gum can also help you with your memory.
