Why Football Is Important To Me Essay
I have attended four different high schools in four years, and have played football alongside numerous teammates and coaches. I have always participated in sports throughout high school. Playing football has taught me valuable lessons for use on and off of the field.
When I joined the football team my freshman year, I did not fully understand what I was getting into. Even though I watched football on television, I had no idea how much work was truly required for the sport. I worked vigorously for the duration of the summer in the weight room, and on the track, to achieve peak physical and mental shape before the season. Waking up daily at six in the morning, followed by a grueling workout during the summer heat, takes a great deal of discipline for young men. This attribute is what will help me in waking up every day to do things that I need to do if they are part of a larger process that I am committed to. Going to work, or staying home to

I will work with all of my might, and muster the knowledge that I have acquired from playing football, to ensure my success. There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…

High school football in small towns like mine is a big deal. While I was growing up in Hugoton, Kansas, a town of about of about 4,000 people, the community was very supportive. Many people in my community knew me because I was a standout in football. I was a captain my senior year of high school, so I received the opportunity to help lead my team. At games and at practice, I tried to the of my best ability to motivate the younger players on my team to give it all they had. As a role player, I was expected to make big plays in the game. Football is my favorite sport, and the sport that I take the most pride in. I like the feeling of the team that stands beside me when I am on the field, and the comradery between me and my teammates while we are out there. I have created many friendships from football that I plan to hold on to. I also have learned life lessons to always get back up even if you have been put down. My junior year I had broke my hand the first game of the year on the very first play. I continued to play through that game and also refused to get anything done to my hand until it was unbearable.…

On and off the field, I knew my role was to lead our class and team. From the weight room to the track, and even in the classroom, I lead by example and empowered others on a journey unique to each person. Teaching freshman, and staying after practice to help those that needed it, helped me realize the uttermost selfish thing we can do is believe our actions only affect ourselves. Everything we do affects someone else for the better or for the worse. There is no other environment that lends the same leadership opportunities and experiences than that of a football. I can truly say that without playing football in high school, I would not have grown into the person I am today, nor possess the same intellectual characteristics. I am grateful for all experiences, whether seemingly beneficial or adverse, as it is the conglomerate of experiences that makes us who we…

I remember when I was five, I would always attend my step sister’s soccer games during the weekend while at my dad’s. I would always love to watch but I was more of a hands on person. I have always wanted to play soccer but unfortunately it was harder to do for a kid, like me, when I had divorced parents that lived 40 minutes away from each other. It was so hard because usually when it came to soccer, the games would be during the weekend and practices would be a few days during the week. Finally, after my sophomore year I decided to try again and play for my school.…

High School Football was an interesting topic. I was so excited to finally play at the high school level, but I was constantly worrying about if I would be good enough to actually play. I’d been playing since the 3rd grade, and loved every minute of it. After putting in the work at the middle school level, I didn't know how well I would do in high school. All of this changed after our first game, when I caught my first touchdown pass. This experience was so special because I realized that I had what it took to be a great player, and that I needed to work hard to get there.…

Football has always been a big part of my life. As a young boy I would day dream of making insane touchdowns, making tackles that would leave man stuck in the ground, and even winning the heisman trophy. In 7th grade I had begged my mother endlessly to sign me up for pee wee football because she would always worry about the risks of football. After finally getting her to sign me up, we went straight into the season. I chose to play running back because as a 12-year-old I was remarkably fast having timed 5.3 in the 40 yard-dash. After a few weeks in the season we approached the playoffs and found out our opponent for the first round of the playoffs were the jaguars who were undefeated. Our team didn’t have the best chemistry on…
