As we all know FDR was a great president during the Great Depression. He was a man who cared for the people. He worked to serve Americans, which should be his job. He led America out of the trauma of the Great Depression and to victory in World War II. There is a reason why Roosevelt was president four times
He was born in 1882 at Hyde Park, New York. He attended Harvard University and Columbia Law School. In 1905, and married Eleanor Roosevelt. He entered public service through politics, as a Democrat, won election to the New York Senate in 1910, and President Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 1920. In 1921, when he was 39, he was stricken with poliomyelitis. He fought to regain the use of his legs, mostly through swimming. Soon he was on crutches and became governor of New York. I think this was a great accomplishment for hi. His way of thinking completely changed after his incident. He learned to know people before judging them, and that the richest people aren’t always s the better ones. He was elected President in November 1932, to the first of four terms. By March there were 13,000,000 unemployed, and almost every bank was closed. He believed that "The only thing we have to fear is – fear itself." He went by his ideals. He was a very smart man. Roosevelt helped the American people regain faith in themselves. When somebody believes in what they are fighting for, it is easier to get other people involved. He knew what the people wanted and what they needed. He brought a new hope with him. And soon people believed they could go through it. He created the New Deal, which sought relief, recovery, and reform. Within his new deal there were many programs that helped the Americans. After Hoover left the country in a very bad state, he had to put everything back together. By 1935 the Nation had achieved some measure of recovery.
