Why Do We Need Police Brutality?
“Pow” went the gun shots from the crime scene. How would you feel? Waking up and your son is no longer here on earth with you. No more , long conversations , hugs , kisses or even his presence. Police are taking advantage of their badges and guns. They have the ability to belittle Black men because of their skin color. Then they turn around and murder them. Taking them away from their loved ones. Not thinking twice about pulling that trigger because they have so much hatred in their hearts. Police brutality is an issue for many States and Cities. People don't feel comfortable in their homes and neighborhoods anymore. They are harmed and miss lead by the very own people that is suppose to protect us. Just because they have a badge and a gun …show more content…
According to (Apnorc.org) “The difficult relationships between the police and Blacks in the united states is evident in the deep rooted racial divisions”. It is also sad for the public's view of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Some even say that “Violence against civilians by the police officers is an extremely or very serious problem”. Research says “Nearly three quarters of blacks and less than 20 percent of whites” has said that. We get stripped of our rights because of our skin color . We should feel comfortable in our homes and our neighborhoods. They make people feel unwanted and they make us feel like we are less of people . But we belong here And We are somebody. Statistics show “These differences are also evident in public trust of local police forces. Among all Americans, 60 percent say they can trust their local police to do what is right for them and their community often or always, 28 percent say sometimes, and 11 percent say rarely or …show more content…
The article “Mapping Police Violence” says that “Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015”. And “37% of unarmed people killed by police in 2015’. Despite of being only 13% of the U.S population. Police brutality connects to racism, But it’s towards African Americans, Racism has always been an issue for blacks. It causes a dramatic impact on Black communities and lives because Our leaders fought for our rights such as, Martin luther king Jr. , Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman and etc. It's still affecting us in a negative impact. We was born with natural rights, And we are discouraged of them everyday. Also ”Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015.” , and “Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 2 of these deaths (Matthew Ajibade and Eric Harris) resulted in convictions of officers involved. Only 1 of 2 officers convicted for their involvement in Matthew Ajibade death received jail time. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail and allowed to serve this time exclusively on weekends. Deputy Bates, who killed Eric Harris, will be sentenced May

Just like how there are people like me who are against police brutality, there are those who feel as if police brutality is not a problem. For example, counter-arguments suggest, “Police have the right to protect themselves.” (Debate.org). They ask you to think about how the officers put their lives in jeopardy every single day when they go on their shift. Yes, they put their lives in jeopardy, however, that is what they signed up for. They accepted the conditions that came with becoming a police officer and knew the possibilities of what could happen out in the field.…

Many people believe that police brutality in America is a problem. Others have a different thought on the matter. People believe that it is a problem because of what they see in the news and media. They only see one side of the story, not both sides. People only think that colored people get killed by police officers, but that's not the case at all. People always bring race into the killings and say “The white officer shot the man because he was black”. They don't look at both sides of the story. They only see and know what the media shows them. Some protests in the past turned violent and the police had to come in and control the protesters. Just this year someone was so fed up with cops killing black people that during black lives matter…

It all started when a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri shot a black suspect by the name of Michael Brown, who was trying to surrender. This caused an uproar as people demand that justice must be served because of the fact that Michael Brown died by a white police officer, having citizens concluding that the white officer fired shots at the suspect is because he was black. However, the reality is that Michael Brown robbed a convenience store, assaulted an officer in uniform, and made a move for the officer’s gun. In reality, a cop is six times more likely to be killed by a black individual than the vice-versa. The reality is that the individuals who are like Michael Brown are the ones who are a big threat to black lives than the police.…

People continue to protest until this day not only for black live but for all lives because this issue doesn’t only affect the color of people skins and how they are treated, it affects the look of our country and how the government protects our natural rights we are given. This issue has always been a problem but it has only recome recognized until the recently where many cities were put under martial law, the law temporarily imposed upon an area by state or national military forces when civil authority has broken down or during wartime military operations. As though policeman has a civic duty to protect our people, some who has authority to power abused it in some cases. In 2004, in Milwaukee, 26 year old Frank Jude was leaving a party one night with his friend, Lovell Harris, was jumped by four off duty officers. One of the foul officers had felt that Jude looked like another…

In 2012 an underage teen named Trayvon Martin was fatally shot trying to go home from the store by a man named George Zimmerman. In 2011 twelve year old boy named Tamir Rice was shot by police for playing with a bebe gun outside. A girl named Aiyana Jones was shot by a policeman while she was sleeping on the couch during a home raid by police. There are many more of these cases, one thing they have in common, they were all black and all cases were ruled as not guilty. 41 black boys have been reported shot unarmed since 1980 to 2012, the average age of blacks killed by police was 30 the average age of whites was 35 ( deadly force in black and white Gabrielson). The black lives matter group no matter how old the case is still trying to get justice for the family. Trayvon’s family got higher than a million. There's a 49 percent chance of a black person getting shot by police than a white person and at least half the cases remain not guilty. In the year 2015, 400 plus years after slavery, America still struggles with the thought of racism amongst African Americans. To name a few, African Americans experience racism through racial inequality, racial profiling, and police brutality. The Black Lives Matter Movement in particular brought the attention to police brutality in America. Known to be the new Civil Rights Movement, Black Lives Matter was created because of the injustice amongst people of color when it comes to police killings. According to the Guardian, blacks killed by police this year were more than twice as likely to be unarmed as were whites. The Guardian also said wrote 32% of African-Americans killed were unarmed while 15% of whites and 25% of Latinos did not have weapons. These statistics are scary but true. Which brings the question of why? Why are police killing our unarmed black men and women? Why should African Americans trust an institutionalized American system that was never meant to protect black people? I personally believe police brutality stems from the history and origin of American policing and because of bias and malice driven white cops. More importantly, is the black community haunted by historical beliefs, practices, and stereotypes that once deprived them?…

They are the ones with the weapons, they are the ones with the control. As policemen, more often than not, they have the court on their side. It’s unfair to treat the black community as well as many others involved in trying to create change like they’re doing something criminal. There’s really no way for them to get their point across when no one will listen. Police take their power too far, and abuse it.…

The recent police shootings which have taken place across America, and the fabrications stirred up by many mainstream media publications like CNN and MSNBC have led many Americans to be ambivalent towards law enforcement officers, and to wonder if, in fact the majority of cops are racist or hold racial biases towards minorities. Many who lead this argument state the hackneyed phrase “Black Lives Matter” and form rallies and protests, which have led to violent riots in several cities like Dallas, Texas and Ferguson, Missouri. Of course, black lives do matter, just the same as every other life does. Black Lives Matter activists point to statistics that show that despite blacks make up only 13 percent of the population, they account for 26 percent…

There have been around 715 people that have been shot by police alone in 2016. Police violence in the US has become a major point of interest recently due to the amount of shootings. In recent news there have been many reports of police shooting and/or killing black men, which has led to movements such as the black lives matter movement, a movement working for the validity of black lives. Although there are points made to support both sides of the story, I feel that the police are to blame for the recent amount of violence. Many of the recent reports of black males being shot by the police has sparked a conversation about if the police should wear body cameras and has sparked the gun control debate in the United States. After reaching levels of police brutality as it was in the 1990’s with things…

Racism represents itself in society every day. Every time I turn on the news it seems like there is something new about some sort of violence against African Americans. It seems like the police are always quicker to go against people of color, a lot of the time with no evidence or reason, because of the stereotypes they hold in their heads. There is zero hesitation when they take out their guns to shoot or use any kind of weapon to inflect pain and violence towards people because of the color of their skin. 1 As said by Trevor Noah in the Daily Show, “It seems extremely easy to get shot by police in America”. I find it absurd because you would think after the past that America has everyone would come together and try to put an end to all this chaos.…

The reason behind this is the injustices committed by some officers who take advantage of the badge they wear. Police officers are said to have a rough life as they go out everyday to fight crime sometimes leading to shots being fired, and who knows if they’ll ever see their families again. But it does not give them to terrorized the average American citizen just for its own fun or peacefulness.Reports of police brutality has grown in the past year by 25% according to the police department statistics. Most of them have been towards the African American and Latino communities. These brutalities are so bad they often lead to death or long-term lasting injuries. A chicago man was beaten by police so bad that the man suffered permanent brain damage that make him have seizures. Due to excessive force there have been many cases which police will shoot an innocent person and try to get away with it. Most of the targets that were innocently killed by police were black males and females. The death of those individuals were proof that racism is still alive in America as it is often a white police officer killing a minority that was doing nothing wrong to disturb the peace. Often this affects more the individual's life as they leave behind children, wives, and a community that knew them and knew they did no…

Racism is an enormous part of America’s history. Most people say that racism is no longer a predicament but because of things like social media and the internet it has become exceptionally evident that racism was and still is a problem. Remarkably racism is a vast problem in the criminal justice system. A grand question is how racism in the legal system truly effects the black community? Unfair convictions towards black people, police brutality, and system abuse of power are the main effects of unfair treatment in the criminal justice system.…

Imagine coming home one day and having to be told that one of your loved ones has died for something as simple as a traffic offense or a fistfight with a friend. Of course these actions are not justified, but are they really deserving of being killed? Recently here in the USA there have been numerous deaths of young African American men by the police for very small offenses, and many say these deaths are fueled by racism. A great example of this is in Milwaukee in which 23 year-old Syville Smith was running from his car at a traffic stop and was shot in the chest and arm, eventually leading to death. This event much like others really brings up the question, how do recent events in Milwaukee impact the law enforcement’s reputation across the country and…

In the news, you can hear the Black Lives Matter movement marching in the streets asking for justice for the inequality and the death of millions because of law enforcement. It is amazing that the people we agree upon to protect us from harm and deviance are the ones being deviant and killing innocent people. Law enforcement has the most power because they are allowed to carry a weapon. They can defend themselves with lethal force. It seems that we are unable to trust the police force to protect us from harm's way, instead we can expect discrimination and corruption within the system. We can move forward with the Black Lives Matter movement but with the risk of getting shot while asking for justice. Nowadays we have to say things like,“hands up, don't…
