Why Do We Have The Right To Dissent With The Government

When our country declares war on another, many people fail to realize the underlying commitments that come with that bloody road ahead. When we declare war; we declare that we will donate our hard earned money, sacrifice our loved ones, and work together for our victory. We may be fighting the battles across ‘the pond’, but the war has, and always will, start at home. The amount of money that our government spent on the Cold War was astronomical. In our desperate effort to stay ahead of the game in our nuclear advancements, we spent an average of $35 billion dollars each year(Weinstein, Adam). This money came from taxes of our employed citizens then, and for many years to come. We all fought in this war effort, we all made sacrifices. Unfortunately,
Our country should have the right to dissent with our government. If that right was taken away from us, then our country would lose a freedom that our beloved ones sacrificed their lives for. On the contrary belief, however, I can see why the dissenting opinion needs to be kept under control, once again, everything in moderation. Despite each citizen's preferred belief that the media keeps us totally informed on what is going on in the government, and between countries: we are not. The President cannot release all information to the public because many things can be a weapon in the hand of an enemy, of which I am in agreement with. Due to this requisite ignorance of the people, we may have a dissenting opinion of a situation simply due to lack of knowledge. This inevitable occurrence is the very reason that we elect a president of our trust-to deal with these situations in the mind of the people. Our country should have the right to dissent with the government, however, the ultimate decision, in regards to our protection and battles, should be handled by the government in the likeness of the
