Why Do Jocks Use Cliques In High School?

High school can be one of the most confusing places to be in the world. This is where you find out who you are and where you fit in. There are many different groups or cliques in high school that you can be a part of. Cliques have been around as long as there have been high schools. Jocks, preps, and nerds are the most common you can find in high school. Jocks are the popular and athletic kids of high school. They usually participate in every sport, and excel in all of them. Most of the time, they can be classified as the “cool” kids. Jocks are usually the people that grab everyone’s attention due to the fact that their name is in the local newspaper, or because their fans are always around them. However, in some high schools, jocks can be seen as bullies. Since jocks are respected due to their popularity, they believe they can pick on and mistreat the less popular kids of their school. However, preps are not involved in sports. Particularly, preps are the individuals who tend to be good at being social, having fun, and usually come from an upper middle class or upper-class. They also prance around claiming they are better than everyone else at school. Preps are the most popular in their schools along with jocks. These individuals try to join every club in their school, and try to establish the best reputation they can.
