I am constantly reminding parents when they pick up and/or drop off their children that they are always more than welcome to come in and volunteer. When talking to parents about volunteering I let them know what a great impact it has on their children when they do take the time to come in and volunteer in their child’s classroom. It’s also great for the parents as well; they get the chance to see where their children spend most of their day and see the different activities they do and games they play with the teachers and staff. I think volunteering is a wonderful thing for parents to do, for not only their children, but for themselves and also the…
Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…
Although, the volunteer work is part of the requirements for the Honors program, it is a way of life for me. I know the importance of helping those who are less fortunate or who are simply going thru. It also teaches our children how to have a giving heart, and to always be thankful for the blessings in their…
Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…
During my 10th grade year, me and my fellow classmates volunteered for Keep Gastonia Beautiful. I got the chance to volunteer at the Gastonia Farmers Market where I got to help package earthworm kits. I got the chance to go to different parks throughout Gastonia, picking up trash and spreading out mulch on the playground. Our school actually recieved an award from Keep Gastonia Beautiful.…
Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…
I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…
Since eighth grade I have volunteered regularly at Prodisee Pantry, a local food bank that gives out boxes of food every week. Prodisee was the first place I volunteered on my venture. Then I started to serve at my old middle school on Tuesdays, usually in the science department where I could offer the most assistance. From there I began leading a small group for middle schoolers at one of my churches on Wednesday nights. However, that was the extent of my service for the first two months of the year, but soon I did something completely new to remind me of the purpose of the 365…
The reason why I volunteer is because I like helping people, working with kids, and I want to have a career that involves working with children. The age group of kids that I work with is from the ages 1 to 13.…
For my mandatory volunteerism in High school I worked with the Reading Museum during their summer festival. This worked directly with younger children and involved things such as face painting and the like.…
This past summer I was part of the leadership staff at Camp Howard. I was a unit director for the 1st and 2nd graders who came to camp for the day. This unit consisted of 30 campers and 4 counselors whom I was in charge of. I am also the treasurer of the College of Democrats and I volunteer with multiple organizations. For example, I help students and community members register to vote and I work closely with the office of Lane County of Democrats. I volunteer with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars by holding toy drives for homeless shelters. Another service experience I've had is volunteering with the Sparrow Club in my hometown. The Sparrow Club helps…
I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…
One thing that I like to do in my free time is volunteer. I have worked with many programs but the one that sticks out with me the most is…
There are so many ways an individual can volunteer these days. Finding one that best suits you is important. You want to be comfortable while volunteering and know your gaining a great deal of knowledge to help improve your education.…
There are many reasons why I chose to volunteer for the VAVS Youth Volunteer Program at West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. A friend of mine has told me lots of positive feedback about the West Palm Beach Medical Center. From the things I’ve been told, I know that this program would be life changing. I have always wanted to volunteer because I love helping and making others happy. I always feel satisfied just being able to help someone, even if it was the smallest job. This gives me an opportunity to learn new things and do different activities. Volunteering makes me feel like I’ve achieved something by helping. Volunteering can teach me skills that I may need in the future, and can allow me to look beyond of what I want to do in the future.…
