How Amendments Become Part of the Constitution

Process: After Congress proposes an amendment, the Archivist of the United States, who heads the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), is charged with responsibility for administering the ratification process under the provisions. The Archivist has delegated many of the ministerial duties associated with this function to the Director of the Federal Register.

Why Do Amendments Become Part of the Constitution?

The Constitution was set up by our forefathers in order to change it if needed to, not to be a tyrannical form of government that they had recently escaped. Also keep in mind that checks and balances allow our government to limit the other branches as well as influence each other, as the judicial branch can deem anything unconstitutional and the executive branch can veto bills.
