Alka Seltzer Expirement Research The Expirement that the chemist will be conducting includes the following materials: hot water, room tepmerature water, cold water, and regular Alka Seltzer tablets. Research on Alka Seltzer in previous expirements shows that it dissolves faster in hotter temperatures of water. It also shows in previous expirements that Alka Seltzer dissolves slower in colder temperatures of water rather than hotter temoeratures. Alka Seltzer is an antacid that contains aspirin. It is made in tablets that dissolve in water to give a fizzy reaction. The reason people have to use Alka Selzter is to relieve acid indigestion, stomach pain, heart burns, head pains, and any type of aching bodily functions. It is an antacid tablet

    During this lab we tested the reaction of alka seltzer in water. We used water and bromothymol blue (BTB) to help hypothesize what was happening with the alka seltzer in water. When we put the alka seltzer tablet in the water, it started fizzing. It created a lot of bubbles in the water which tells us that some kind of a gas was created when the alka seltzer was put into the water. The next step was the hypothesize what that gas might be. That mystery gas created by the alka seltzer in water had a reaction with the BTB. Since the BTB solution was under the soda bottle dome, a reasonable conclusion is that the gas released by the alka seltzer had a reaction on the BTB solution. The mystery gas turned the BTB solution from blue to yellow. This same reaction occurred when I blew carbon dioxide (CO2) into BTB solution. Since we exhale CO2, and the same reaction occurred with the mystery gas, I can hypothesize that when alka seltzer is combined with water, it creates CO2 gas.
