The people who were for secession were mainly the slave owners and the people who were against freeing slaves. Just about all of the south. The South was like the North has all of the factories and we the south we only trade and they are trying to take that away from us. They were like no because we are mainly agricultural. They took horses, hogs, chickens, and corn. They took cloth the women had saved to make clothes for the children. Confederate Colonel William N. Brown reported that the corrupt Confederate tax officials had “done more to demoralize Jones County than the whole Yankee army.” Which we can infer that one of the reasons for secession is that the women were getting very angry because the Confederate army was taking the meats, food, and clothing.
