I will be explaining what a hurricane is, what was the damage caused, and how meteorologists track the hurricane. It got up to a category five and the top wind speeds were 175 mph. It was one of the worst, most disastrous hurricane of all time.
What is a hurricane and how does it form?
A hurricane is a type of severe weather that can rip houses to shreds and destroy many things with their strong winds. Hurricane Andrew formed just like any other hurricane. Tropical waters under 20 degrees. Then 80 degree ocean temperature for at least 100 ft down, warm humid air, and of course, a low pressure area. Hurricane Andrew wasn’t considered dangerous until it started to increase rapidly on August 22. By the 23rd, Hurricane Andrew hit the Bahamas at a terrifying wind speed of 160 mph. With top speeds of 175, that made Hurricane Andrew a category five hurricane.

As if it weren't bad enough, five schools were destroyed, and overall the storm left heavy damage to the water, sanitation, agriculture, and fishing. By the time it made it to Florida on August 22nd , it calmed down to a category four. But it still made a huge mess and destroyed parts of the Everglades. When Hurricane Andrew hit, it was the most expensive Hurricane that hit the U.S. Since then, several more have taken its place but nonetheless, very devastating to many people.The Bahamas got hit hard. More than 750 houses were destroyed.
