Why Count Paris Would Be a Better Husband than Romeo.
For Juliet, Romeo was not the only man in her life. There was another man who wanted to marry the young Capulet. This man was Count Paris. Count Paris was a rich noble kinsman of the prince and much more settled than Romeo. The Capulets loved Paris more than Romeo which would leave no stress on family problems. Paris and Juliet could have been public about their marriage which was a luxury that Romeo and Juliet didn’t have. The County also didn’t get into as many fights as Romeo. Also Juliet could have benefitted from Paris’s marriage than Romeo’s. All these reasons added up make it clear that Paris would have been a better for Juliet.
One of the reasons why Paris could have been a better match for Juliet is because the Capulets loved him much more than Romeo. Lord Capulet has discussed the marriage of Count Paris and Juliet before (Act 1 Scene 2 Line: 6) and Lord Capulet had no problem with their marriage setting the age of Juliet aside. Since Count Paris has talked with Lord Capulet about the marriage, it would not be a sudden and unknown marriage like Romeo and Juliet’s. Since Paris was not a Montague, they would already have loved more than Romeo for that reason only. The Capulets and Montagues have a rivalry (Told in the first Chorus) since anyone could remember. The Ladies and Lords of the both families would not be happy about the marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Paris does not have any problems with any of the families so the Capulets would not mind, or actually insist, the marriage of Paris and Juliet.
Another reason why Paris would be a better husband is because he and Juliet could’ve been more public with their marriage. Since the Capulet liked Paris (Act 1 Scene 3 Lines: 80-84) they would be thrilled if Juliet were to marry him, but they would disown Juliet if they knew she married Romeo and because of this, they had to hide their marriage from their parents

In ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Lord Capulet seems to be very caring and considerate towards Juliet when speaking to Paris, a man that Lord Capulet would like Juliet to marry due to his status and financial position. This is shown when Capulet says “hopeful lady of my earth”, this infers Juliet means the world to him, it implies she is as precious to him as he created her and is very proud of her. It also shows that as she is his only child he wants nothing other than the best for her. We can also see that Capulet wants the best for his daughter when he is explaining to Paris how he wants him to “woo her” and to “get her heart”. This shows that Capulet wants Juliet to be in love with the man she is going to marry and wants to get married to him for her own emotional reasons and not just because her father wants her to.…

Lady Capulet tries to convince Juliet that Paris is the perfect man for her by magnifying him to persuade Juliet round to the idea. Lady Capulet expects marriage to be an easy thing to consider and agree to; this means her expectations of Juliet are to take the hand of whomever Capulet & Lady Capulet think is the perfect man and not of whom Juliet thinks is best. Lady Caplet has shown she has taken up her role in the Patriarchal Hegemony that surrounds Veronese society and she and all women have not made any effort to change it, but instead have absorbed and continued through with the tradition without any question of if it is right or fair to women. Lady Capulet is typical of women of the time as her marriage to Capulet is portrayed to be one of power , money and status rather than of love.…

Because of her young age like it says here,”She’s not fourteen./I’ll lay fourteen of my teeth,/And yet, to my teen be it spoken, I have but four,/She’s not fourteen”(1.3.12-15), she does not have the decision making abilities to know that Romeo is the right person to marry. She needs to be older and have spent more time with him to truly know. She also jumps to rash decisions when her father, Lord Capulet, decides that she has to marry Paris. If she would not have said that the only choice was to kill herself if she had to marry Paris, and talked about the situation with her parents there would have been a different…

Firstly, some people believe that the parents of Romeo and Juliet were to blame for their deaths because of the ongoing feud between the two families. The argument between the Montague’s and Capulets is mentioned in the prologue, ‘Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene, from ancient grudge break, to new mutiny, where civil hands make civil hands unclean, from forth the fatal loins of these two foes ... doth with their death bury their parents strife, the fearful passage of their parents rage’. The point is made, that if the two families did not have such hatred for each other, it would not have resulted in the deaths of the two ‘star crossed lovers’, Romeo and Juliet. It is almost certain that if the parents had gotten on right from the start, they would not have had a problem with the love that Romeo and Juliet shared and they would have let them get married to each other with probably no hesitation. ‘Disobedient wretch… get the to church a’ Thursday, or never after look me in the face.’ (3.5) this quote shows the pressure Juliets father put on her to marry Paris. If Lord and Lady Capulet had given Juliet their full support when growing up they may have understood her feelings for Romeo, therefore Juliet would not have had to go out of her way to try and stop the marriage her parents had arranged to one of the most important men in Verona, Paris.…

Younger than you,/ Here in Verona, ladies of esteem,/ Are made already mothers. By my count,/ I was your mother much upon these years/ That you are now a maid. Thus then in brief:/ The valiant Paris seeks you for his love” (I.iii.73-78``). This quote is leading up to Capulet and Lady Capulet pushing Paris on Juliet and telling her that it is time to get married. When Paris and marriage are in the same sentence, you know that they are trying to start something. Juliet is not in love with Romeo. This quote shows a man that is well above her age being forced on her that she hasn’t even met or has made an emotional connection with yet. Juliet is also very emotional but not as emotional as Romeo is. Juliet is just in love with having a choice in men, not with Romeo. There was nothing special about Romeo. He was just a boy that she liked and didn’t waste any time getting to know him before they got married. Then again, Juliet probably didn’t know any better and getting married sooner than later was justifiably okay for the time period that the play takes place in. The play Romeo and Juliet takes place around…

In the beginning Juliet clearly stated that she did not love Paris, the one that her family desired for her to marry. However, she kept her marriage to Romeo, the one she truly loved, to herself. “My only love sprung from my only hate!”(Shakespeare, 396). The Montagues and the Capulets have been feuding with one another for many years. Juliet reserves her secret and lies to her parents. “O Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art…

Romeo and Juliet are two lovers during the Great Depression living in Georgia. Romeo comes from a wealthy family, whereas Juliet is from a formerly rich family who lost all their money in the stock market crash. They met in a diner where Juliet was with her friends and family. Romeo’s family disagrees with marrying someone so poor, so they are banned from seeing each other. Juliet is poor: she wears old hand-me-downs from her mom, and has long brown hair with mismatched shoes. Romeo is rich and wears formal outfits and nice clothing; his hair is cut short and slicked down. The scene with Lord Capulet yelling at Juliet for denying Paris takes place in their trailer home. Paris is the son of a local factory owner, and has a chance on making steady income.…

Capulet, dishearten about the recent death of Tybalt, reschedules and plans the wedding of the County Paris in order to bring happiness rather than woe for Juliet, “O' Thursday let it be.—O' Thursday, tell her…” (Shakespeare 3.4.22-25). Capulet not only created rash decisions for his own benefit (social status, security, and economic state) and forces marriage on to Juliet, but has complicated Romeo and Juliet’s plan to be together. Juliet revokes this arranged marriage and is overwhelmed by the advancement that her parents have created. Capulet, being the head of household has patriarchal power making it harder for Juliet’s opinion to be valid. He uses force and power showing that he is selfish and prone to rage, “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch!... An you be mine, I’ll give you to my friend.” (Shakespeare 3.5.160-167,177-196). Juliet begs to cancel the marriage but he being a misogynist, revokes her opinion, and in hope to know what is best for her. He continues to use verbal abuse to prove his point and treats her as a piece of property instead of a human being. The lack of proper communication and contentment presented proves how challenging it is for Juliet to reveal to her parents that she is loyal and married to Romeo and that her opinion is valid, gives her further reason to be disobedient. Her parents fail to acknowledge that this is a new step in her life due to being with a different guardian, and the overwhelming amount of misinterpreted emotions that she is experiencing, such as her parents believing that she is only crying for the death Tybalt, but for the exile of Romeo…

Lord and Lady Capulet believed in the idea of arranged marriage, that it was a good thing for their daughter. La. Capulet was blind to Juliet’s feelings and emotions, and only wanted what she and her husband wanted, which was for Juliet to be married to the county, Paris. If Lady Capulet had been more of a motherly figure, and had listened to her daughters needs, had been more caring, and had done the simple things a mother should have done, Juliet wouldn’t have wanted to drink the potion that got the ball rolling in the first place. Lord Capulet wasn’t any better and had a defect of character. He had narrow vision, and thought that if Juliet were to marry Paris, that her grief from Tybalt passing would pass. Lord Capulet forced Juliet’s hand. He had told her, “I tell what: get thee to church o’ Thursday, or…

During the play, Juliet's feelings about being married off to Paris were completely disregarded. If society would've been evolved enough at that time to realize that feelings matter, Juliet wouldn't have died. Juliet and Romeo would not have had to arrange to be married in secret, they would've been able to be open about the fact that they are in love, Juliet wouldn't have to take the sedative, and ultimately they wouldn't have to both die.…
