To begin on this journey and fully understand why college education is important to me, I must start in my childhood. My mother always enforced the importance of good grades and daily school attendance. As a child I was told about the negative effects that not finishing high school would have on my life. I was raised by a single mother that was a successful beautician. I guess with all the success that she had didn’t give me the impression that I needed a college education. I never imagined that college credits or a degree would keep me from reaching my dreams. Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs only to the people who prepare for it today. I always knew I wanted to be a registered nurse. My goal was to complete high school and immediately attend college. Once I graduated from high school I lost sight of my goals and let many years pass before pursuing my education. I was hypnotized by a descent paying job and honestly thought I was satisfied and did not need any higher learner. After five years on the job I was laid off and left without any job leads. Many jobs that have employee growth potential require applicants to have college degrees or credits. A college educations allows you to look at a wider range of jobs and explore different career paths. A brighter future and a better quality of life is in store for me once I obtain a degree. My plans are to obtain my associates degree in Health care Management then I will be able to become the director at my adult activity day center. Once I obtain my associates degree I will consecutively pursue my bachelor’s degree. I have not decided if I want my degree as a registered nurse but I am taking it one degree at a
