Why Become A Nurse Practitioner

When I was young, I already know what I wanted to be when I grow up, and that is to become a Pediatrician. The reason why I wanted to become a Pediatrician was because my younger brother has a weaker immune system than I have, and he gets sick easily than I do. Growing up in a poor family, I noticed that getting quality care or immediate health attention for the rest of my family, my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins was impossible. That’s when I decided to change my career goal, and that is to be a Nurse Practitioner. The reason why I wanted to become a Nurse Practitioner is because the quality of my care for my whole family will be greater and convenient will be convenient for them, and I will be the very first person in the family who’ll pursue for a higher educational attainment.
What troubles me is that getting an exceptional health care for my family is a bit intimidating. First, my family can’t afford being admitted to the hospital. Second, the mere idea of going to a Doctor and have a check-up is expensive. So, ever since I enrolled to the nursing program in one of the Universities in our country, I started to apply what I learned at school. The basic check-up like blood pressure, temperature, heartbeat, and respiratory assessment was a tremendous help to my family, especially to my Grandparents. I even know how to administer drug through injecting it, like insulin for my diabetic grandfather, giving both my grandparents advice of what food is good and beneficial for their age and condition, reading Doctor’s prescription, giving the right amount of dosage, reminding them when and how to take their medication was a big help. Knowing all these skills and applying it right away in a short period of time was overwhelming, but
