Why Banning Books Should Not Be Banned Essay
“…Our basic right – the freedom to express ourselves as we see fit – is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States’ Constitution…” as stated from the text, Schools and Censorship: Banned Books. A recent banning of books for having age inappropriate content has been debated, but books should not be banned because children will eventually be exposed to the content, children need to learn they’re history, and children are being deprived the right to representation, as stated in the Constitution. Therefore, it is illegal to ban books from the people. Children being exposed to what they will eventually learn are justified when they are exposed to ideas like violence, sexuality, religion, political perspective, and opinions or lifestyles.

According to the First Amendment of the United States’ Constitution, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment or religion, or prohibited the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press…” therefore stating the government cannot deprive the people of getting information from associations other than themselves. It is at a person‘s own free will of what they decide to read or watch. Even though some books and ideas damage the thoughts of the youth’s mind, guidance to what is right or wrong can lead a student to the right path, along with additional information to what is wrong. Children’s rights cannot be taken away from libraries or schools, including other organizations that give away the knowledge of the real world. In summary, it is illegal to ban the books that are free to a child’s hand. In conclusion, the banning of books should not be permitted in any organization, especially for educational purposes because children need to be exposed to what they will experience in the future, children need to learn their history, and children cannot be deprived of freedom because of the constitution.
