Why Athletes Should Get Paid
Although athletes may work extremely hard, they do not deserve that high of a salary because there are people who do more for this country than just entertain. Everyone loves watching the olympics, football, or basketball, but that doesn’t mean that athletes should get paid in the tens of millions of dollars. Maybe that's why the United States is so in debt is because people care more about sports than their own well being. First and foremost, athletes get paid more the military which shouldn’t be happening, the military works harder than any athlete. People in the military go away from their families for months at a time while athletes get to stay home and get paid way more than the military. Most may not think that this is wrong, that athletes get paid way more than the military because they entertain people while the military fights so that everyone else can live in a free country. Many athletes think that they deserve millions of dollars, but really they do nothing but play a sport while more people are doing more important things. Military people deserve more money than athletes, nut not millions because then that would just make the United States more in debt. …show more content…

Many people don’t have a house because they don't have enough money for decent clothes and meanwhile athletes are sitting up in their penthouses partying every night. Most homeless people can’t get jobs because they don’t look presentable for job interviews and no one cares. Athletes think that they deserve the money they get but really they don’t, many people could use that money to start a better life, but everyone is too

Athletes in college may not make money from the games they play, but they don’t really need it either. They rarely have to pay tuition, they don’t pay for room and board, and they probably don’t pay for their food either. They have no need to make money off of their games because everything they need is already paid for. People say they deserve at least part of what they make, but the school uses it to better their school and facilities, so overall it’s being used for the players anyway.…

You trained for this moment, you shoot, you score, and the cheers go wild. You make money, tons of it, but have you ever thought about other people doing others jobs, especially the dangerous ones and don’t make as much money as you? While athletes devote their lives into their job, nurses, doctors, construction workers, firefighters, and military fighters don’t even gain that much and they serve this country (Nurses make 71,000 dollars, doctors make 189,000 dollars, construction workers make about from 20,230 and 59,900 dollars, and military fighters make 76,841 dollars). A numerous amount of people believe that athletes are overpaid. Compared to people who work and dedicate their entire life, their income added up all these years still does not add up to how much an athlete makes per year (Averagely, people make around 50,000 dollars per year.) This is all the more why athletes and other people’s payments are unfair.…

Athletes should not be paid for the sport that they play in college. College can be a wonderful thing for athletes and people can get full ride scholarships for playing a sport. It is argued that these athletes should be paid for the amount of revenue they bring into their schools. However this is not the case. A lot of schools actually lose out on money for college athletics. When you think about it as well college athletes are in pretty comfortable positions if they use their resources to their full potential. There would actually be more problems created instead of problems solved and it would cost these schools even more money. A lot of factors play into this but some of the main factors is that college athletes are paid through their tuition, a lot of colleges couldn’t afford it, and that only some athletics would be paid.…

While it's true that many professions are underpaid, athletes earn their high pay due to astronomical amount of revenue that sport leagues earn. For instance, while one could argue a teacher, police officer, or military servicemen are more deserving of the millions of dollars that athletes earn, their occupational fields do not have enough money an athlete's salary. While the salaries of athletes may seem unfair because of the importance of many professions, the fact that sports are billion dollar industries justify the amount athletes earn. There was a point in time where athletes were not paid as handsomely as…
