Why Are Paper Towns Banned
The book I have chosen to do my research paper over banned books week is Paper Towns. I used three articles for my research paper. The three articles are named: Tampa Bay Times, LA Times, and Banned Library. Tampa Bay Times told me why Paper Towns was banned. LA Times told me what age level Paper Towns was banned for. Banned Library told me what year Paper Towns was banned in. According to Tampa Bay Times, Paper Towns was banned because Pasco County, Florida Middle School had a parent that had some concerns about the sexual content, language, and for drinking. According to LA Times, Paper Towns was banned for a certain age level, and that age level is 13 and under and adult super vision is advised. It was rated PG-13. According to Banned …show more content…
They just knew each other’s name because they lived across from one another. One night Margo came to Quentin for help on revenge of her “boyfriend”, and her “friends”. Her “boyfriend” cheated on her, and her “friends” knew about it and didn’t tell her, and they also had treated her bad. After the revenge night, Margo disappeared that morning. Quentin went looking for Margo with the clues that she left him, and finally he found her by the help of his friends Ben and Radar. When Quentin found her she explained everything and they talked to each other like friends and as a couple, and then they start dating. All in the same day, before Margo leaves Quentin, she asks Quentin to run away with her. Quentin tells her that he can’t because he wants to go to college and she doesn’t. They both decide to keep dating, and stay in touch with each other, but depart from one another. In my opinion, I do not believe that the book should be banned. The book talks about the disappearance of Margo about 99% of the time. The book does talk about sexual content, bad language, and drinking, but Margo is mentioned on every page in the book. Drinking is mentioned in one scene, and language is mentioned more than any of the banned scenes, but sexual content is in only one scene. The book should not be

The topic I chose is underage drinking. The reason I chose this topic is due to the number of teens that consume alcohol that under the age of 21. Upon doing research for this topic, there are many topics to choose from. I was able to narrow it down and research three topics that I think would be significant to the paper that I will be writing. I searched the Scholarly Journals in EBSCOhost, for drinking under the age of 21, and drinking at the legal age of 21. I also researched Scholarly Journals in ProQuest for underage drinking, the fatalities of underage drinking, lowering the minimum drinking age to 18 and the pro’s and con’s of underage drinking. I researched articles that were written by various authors, looking for their point of view of each subject, and also those that have done research on subjects pertaining to the topic I chose.…

    1. This book is continually banned from the school reading list because of racism, sex, and foul language. Do you believe this book should be banned? Even though this book was published in the 1960’s, how can this book relate to today’s society? Considering that many books come and go in public school curriculum, why does this book endure?…

Eden Valley, Minnesota banned it because it used the words “damn” and “whore lady.” I don’t think it’s fair to take a book away from children because it uses curse words. Most television shows use curse words. Most adults use them too. It’s just words and a lot of people hear them everyday. Many books and television shows use curse words more than To Kill a Mockingbird.…

This book was banned due to racial tensions and so called “inappropriate content”. In 1960, school administrators fired an Ohio teacher for assigning the novel to an 11th grade student. The administration claimed the book was anti-white and more predominant white communities fought to have it banned completely. A library banned the novel for a so called violation of codes. The library claimed it had excessive sex scenes, violence ,and extreme foul…

The First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees our right to free speech, which includes the right to read and write books that might be considered by some to be too violent, hateful, or offensive. Some people feel that schools, libraries, and governments should be the judge of what books are good. Others believe that kids or their parents should have the freedom to decide for themselves, and shouldn't have others' viewpoints imposed on them." How is an author supposed to do right to free speech if the people in charge can pick and choose what books they want kids to read? Banning books would take away from their right to free speech. The author's that is. They wrote the book expecting anybody to be able to read it. By banning a book you are taking away from what the first amendment was supposed to do. If a person wants to read the thoughts and mind of an author, they should have the right to, regardless if it's bad or not. I believe it's what best for them; we can't tell a child what is best for them if we haven't met them. Because this freedom is one of our rights as Americans, people feel that any form of censorship is wrong. Most people believe that people should be free to read whatever they choose. According to Carol Brey-Casiano, "Not every book is right for every person, but providing a wide range of reading choices is important for learning, and imagination. The abilities to read, speak,…

Many of these classic stories have been banned because of sexual references, racial slurs, religious intolerance, or supposed witchcraft promotion. Although some may consider these books controversial or inappropriate, many English classes have required their students to read these books (About banned). It should be believed that even controversial books could ultimately boost, not deter, our educational wealth. Book banning should be opposed for three main reasons: education should be open to everyone, citizens should have access to the press, and, lastly, parents should monitor what their own children read and not what other children can obtain. For these reasons, I conclude that the government should play no role in what books any age group can obtain.…

In fact, he goes on to state that she is his miracle, “My miracle was this: out of all the houses in all the subdivisions in all of Florida, I ended up living next door to Margo Roth Spiegelman”…

Books are banned or challenged because they have capacity to “corrupt” a reader's mind or influence. Banning a novel is actually one of the greatest things that can happen or be “awarded” to a book. The Great Gatsby is an example of one of these great books that was banned. The book was banned in 1987 by a Baptist college in Charleston, yet it is considered of one the “Great American Novels” and a literary classic. The book was banned for language and some sexual content. By examining the language, sexual content, and alcohol use in the book; I believe that it should be banned and removed from younger students libraries until they reach high school.…

In 1987, “The Great Gatsby” was first challenged at a baptist college located in Charleston, SC. It was challenged for the “explicit content (profanity)”, “sexual content”, and the excessive partying and use of alcohol. In my opinion this book shouldn't have been banned. “The Great Gatsby” is very accurate towards the setting it portrays. Also if you read the book you'll see that the lesson in it, is a lesson everyone should learn.…

People may not agree with me about banning the book just because of how the book is set up. Gone girl is told by two people, Amy and Nick. Nick tells the story through his eyes and is more in the present where Amy is more seen through her diary. This may be a great learning experience for kids to see different types of ways stories are told but they could see that in many other books. Overall I think it would be a great idea to banned this book from our library just because of how violent and sexual…

What do the books Fifty Shades of Grey, Animal Farm and Tropic of Cancer? They are all banned in different countries because of their content. Books like these should be pulled from shelves. A child could have walked away with a book with that make them depressed about issues or confused about different things they explain in the book. Some people think certain books should not be banned about the material, content and issues because this could teach the youth about situations and topics they give them a better understanding. But these types of lessons should be taught at an older age and when they are mature enough for it. Certain books should be banned because of inappropriate material and issues youth don’t understand.…
