Why Are Coins Important To Me Now
I don’t why change for a dollar exists today. Coins can buy you nothing now, and carrying coins around makes me so angry. Every item for sale should be based off of solid bill. Pennies, nickels, dimes, and all other coins shouldn’t exist anymore. The noise it makes in your pocket is so irritating to me. It’s a lot like keys, only I can’t leave my keys behind. I constantly tell people to keep the change if it’s under a dollar. If I cannot find somebody to give my change to, I will throw it on the ground. Coins are so small, and they usually fall out of my pocket anyway. There I always a homeless man at my gas station. Every time I get something, I give him my change. He knows me when he spots me. I will always go in, and come back out with change. I come out with a handful of change, and give it to him. …show more content…
I go to my next class, and it falls right out of my pocket. It makes huge noise and loud distraction. For some reason, nothing makes me more furious.
I can’t keep change in my wallet, or it won’t close. Instead of having coins, make more bills to replace coins. Switching everything to a card would also be very beneficial. Transferring money through cards would be so easy. I would be so happy with anything but change.
I find change everywhere in my house. It is so hard to keep track of. I’m sure many Americans are the same way. If I saved up all my change, I would have quite a bit of money. I can never do that because I can’t keep track of it all. I’m sure there is thousands of dollars in lost change scattered

‘‘ Michael Cooper, an eighth grader, said, If you asked for my quarters, I would have said ‘no’ because I use them for video games. Pennies don’t really matter much, so I was happy to give them to someone who could use them. Many other students I spoke with echoed Michael’s words.’’(Source 3, Give a Penny-Save the Day) This means that pennies don’t really matter to people. So why should America keep the penny, if people don’t care about it. You are just paying for the pennies to be lying around the your house.…

Is it possible that simple nostalgia and our fond memories of "take a penny, leave a penny" trays are protecting a coin that's worthless to pretty much everyone besides the multinational conglomerate that helps produce it? And if not, why exactly is the penny worth keeping around? The penny for some time has been the “throw-away” change thus having a negative impact on the economy, because with all the accumulated pennies, is all the money thrown out of the economic cycle. Thus since the penny has been giving a negative impact to the economy, in turn it should be eliminated.…

Since 1857, the penny has been changed about ten times! It used to be larger than today's quarter, says “The Ever-Changing Penny.” Though people have worked hard to get the penny the way it is today, it might be time to disscard the penny. The penny cost a lot more than it is worth, it is way too heavy to carry around, it would create a great rounding system, and without it, we can save time and money. It is a big waste to have. We should follow in Canadas footsteps and get rid of it.…

Annoying cashiers was something my siblings and I did quite unintentionally as kids. Down the block from the street we lived on, there was a little convenience store that sold Italian ices, ice cream bars, and a variety of assorted goodies; on hot summer days, we would gather what little change we could find in the couch cushions and pay for our selected treats with pennies, nickels, dimes, and, if the cashier was lucky, quarters. That was when I started thinking about pennies. Are pennies useful? Back in the day, you could buy a stick of gum for a penny! Now, with inflation, pennies do not have the purchasing power they used to. This has led to the question of whether the United…

Do people really need that one extra cent? People normally just leave them on the ground or in a fountain. Some people want to stop minting the penny and to never use it again, but others want to keep using the penny and not get rid of it. Some people are fighting to get rid of the penny and these articles may pull people to their side: “Penny Wise, or 2.4 Cents Foolish?”(Source 1), “Is the Penny Worth It?”(Source 2), “Give a Penny-Save the Day!”(Source 3), and “The Ever-Changing Penny”(Source 4). Some think the U.S. penny should be discontinued because it takes more than one penny to make a penny, it’s not worth much, and it’s a pain to count out when you are paying for something.…

Caught up in our busy lives, Americans tend to take things for granted and fail to appreciate the little things in life. These little things have big meanings, and are much more important than we care to admit. For instance, we often pay little attention to small amounts of currency in the form of coins or more specifically, pennies.. We bustle around cities and schools and workplaces, fishing for cash to purchase a much-needed coffee or snack. Upon arriving to the cash register, we scramble into our wallets for a few pennies to reach the exact price value of our item. This has become a mindless habit, but some people have grown tired of the time wasted by penny-pinchers. However, these grumpy customers fail to recognize the depth…

For instance, Mr. Velde says that, “In a place like New York, a 99-cent price of pizza might go down to 95 cents rather than $1 to avoid crossing that higher price threshold.” From that example, you can take in the cheaper prices we would have, and people would beckon more patience seeing that there would be no more digging in your purse to find that one penny to even the price. When you are buying clothes or Starbucks, you would no longer have to second guess yourself if you brought enough pennies in or if you even have pennies on you for that one product that calls for a cent. There would be no worry if there is a fountain nearby that you can toss it into instead of letting it pile up onto your dresser. Without pennies, purchasing products would be less of a hassle.…

Too much time is spent in vain searching for lost pennies. According to MIT graduate Jeff Gore, mentioned in the article Penny Pinchers by Rick Khan, four hours are spent per year looking for pennies. “If each person's time is worth $15 per hour, then each person loses $60 per year at a cost of the nation of over $15 billion per year” Come on people! 15 billion a year! What a waste of money that could have been…

Emily Andrews argues in her essay “Why I Don’t Spare “Spare Change”” that it does more harm than good to give money to beggars on the street rather than giving to an organization such as United Way to help the needy, pointing out that “one cannot be certain that one is giving to a needy individual” and that by giving to a charitable organization “ones money is likely to be used wisely.”…

The penny, the smallest coin in the U.S., that honors president Abraham Lincoln, is now essentially worthless. Back not too long ago, it was possible to go the store and get a whole bag of candy for a nickel, or a chocolate bar for a penny. But now that is no longer possible. Nowadays the price of everything is much higher than it used to be, which means that small amounts don’t go as far. As source C explained, there used to be penny-poker, penny candy, and five and dime stores. Now, penny poker would be played with dollar bills, penny candy could cost you a couple hundred pennies, and the five and dime is a “dollar store”. The value of money has dropped leaving everything more expensive. As source C states, “it takes nearly a dime today…

Pennies are worthless if they pay less than minimum wage, especially with inflation. To me, the fact that pennies are commonly found on the ground says something even greater than this. As the article End of the Penny has to say about the matter, ‘When people start leaving a monetary unit at the cash register for the next customer, the unit is too small to be useful,’ he[Greg Mankiw, Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers under President Bush] said. ” If a customer leaves pennies behind for the next customer, the first one isn’t helping. The most it could do is help the other customer get even change.…

Imagine a world without the penny. No more happy children who think good luck will come their way when they find a penny heads up on the ground. No pennies around to make that old tin cup clink and brighten the day of some desperate homeless man. Charities, instead of thriving, would suffer due to penniless penny drives. Jobs would be lost due to the lower demand for zinc that could be mined and produced into American money. Most importantly, a significant part of history would be thrown away and lost. Elimination of the penny would be hard to deal with and could cause problems left and right with society. America needs to keep the penny because it has a great deal of social and cultural value, it holds a significant amount of history,…

New technology is constantly being released and of course everyone is all over it. These things are definitely not cheap, but people feel the need to be in possession of them in order to be accepted. "As often as not, it isn't the money itself that means anything; it is the use of money as the currency of the soul." This sentence is very real. It isn't the actual dollar bill that is important. What's important is what you can actually do with the money. If one won the lottery, one wouldn't say "oh, I got a lot of bills, I'm going to keep them forever and not spend them." No. One will most likely say, "I'm going to buy a new mansion and 3 cars, and part of the city." So in reality it isn't the money that people want, it is in fact what the money can do that appeals to…

In our economy, there is barely anything that cost one cent. Yes, pennies help us to pay in exact change, but if there are only a handful of items that cost between one and four cent, those items should be sold in bulk equaling a nickel. Thus, the price on an item should be rounded to the nearest five cent. Yes, five pennies equal a nickel, but why should a person waste that much space in there pocket or change pouch? Pennies waste space and create the illusion of having money. In our society, it takes about a dollar to buy something useful. There aren 't many people that carry a dollar worth of pennies on them, so if merchandise was rounded to the nearest nickel what would be the point of pennies? When I was child, I loved…
