Proposal #3 Language barriers have always been a problem for many living in America. There are just too many languages being spoken, and no common ground or national language for everyone to learn and speak to others. Many know English, but some do not and it causes many problems and makes it more difficult to convey a simple point. The US citizens are the ones affected and who understand this problem. Some citizens may deal with these problems on a daily basis, such as those who live in New York City. Because of this, an English only legislation would be ideal for America. Even though, according to those who don’t speak English, learning to read, write, and speak English is very hard, but it would be helpful for everyone to learn the language, not just others. Walking down the streets of New York City you hear so many different languages being spoken. In some small stores or street vendors it is also very hard to ask questions because the workers only know the bare minimum English needed to sell their goods. For those who don’t know English, a benefit for them would be learning a new language. That’s another language for the resume. Obviously having a diverse nation is great, but there are so many more positives when having an English only legislation. Having a national language just makes communicating with everyone in America so much easier. Any individual walking the streets of America will know the language. Purchasing material won’t make people frustrated or angry, they’ll go as planned. Even with an English only legislation, those who choose to speak different languages still can, in private spots such as their home. In the long run, it would definitely help America as a whole.
