Why A Book Should Be Banned
The ALA bans books for bad language, sexual themes, and much more. If it was not for the ALA we would not have the entire subject of a banned book, but it is so I am here. The book that I am doing is the art of racing in the rain. This book doesn’t have much in it to get it banned but for the little that is in it got it banned. But this has been the loom on what I think about this book getting banned. There are a bunch of little reasons for this book getting banned such as cussing or alcohol using but there are many more reasons for the books banning. Besides all of that the book is a really good naval about a dog named Enzo. One of the biggest reasons for the book being banned is because the book shows a grown man about to have sex with an under age girl.even tho it shows that the book is still a really good book. …show more content…
It is a good book that is heartwarming in almost every way. So no I don't think the book should've been banned. I also think that it should be treated like most books do where you have to read them. This book is also a book that changed me as a reader I haven't stopped reading books since this book. I absolutely love this book even tho it does have some bad stuff. But even because of all that stuff I still absolutely love the book. Next I will be telling if I think the book should be banned or not. So no I do not think that this book should be banned or even should've been challenged it is an all around amazing book. I loved everything about it and I think it is a catastrophe that it is banned in some schools. If I was to talk to the person who banned I would first make them give a very good very valid reason. if that wasn't good I would see if they would unban the book. This mainly because of how amazing the book

I think they shouldn’t ban books because the students can learn something from the book. For instance they can learn how it was okay for them to use bad language back in the day, but now they can’t use the same language. They can also learn the main point of the book because most of the time it’s about war. The book would also benefit the kids too.…

One charge against this novel is the use of racism. Originally I didn’t notice any particular instance of racism, but upon further analyzing I came across the idea that the savage, John, may have been a victim. He struggled in both his native home and in the new world because he was different from everyone else. He truly had no place to call home because he was never accepted by anyone, making the claim accurate to some degree. However, I think that this may be bias. The book doesn’t focus on racism; it merely touches on the subject. If the person making this claim truly wants all of this type of racism excluded we would lose a big chunk of history in our schools. I don’t find this a relevant cause to ban a book from libraries or schools because it doesn’t actually promote racism. It is just a topic.…

A great divide among the human race is our differing views of the world and our opinions. This divide has spanned from the B.C. till now in the 21st century. There is not a country that has been immune to it. Nothing is more obvious of that divide than in the banning of books in our public libraries, schools and institutions of higher learning. This type of literary censorship has banned great classics like The Catcher in the Rye, Huckleberry Finn, Animal Farm and To Kill a Mocking Bird have all been banned in some way and somewhere in some point of time. Books of all types are a great teaching tool in the class room and in life. The practice of censorship and banning books goes against the people’s freedom of choice that our ancestors fought for and whether the subject or topics of books contain racial slurs, sexual innuendos, religious or political views or even witchcraft the individual should make this choice for themselves and for their children.…

    The Banning Of Books

Books should not be banned from libraries, since their stories teach people about an assortment of subjects and important values in life. For instance, according to author Chris Pavone,”The idea that we can prevent kids from taking drugs or having unsafe sex by banning books in which those things happen is preposterous...it’s misguided on every level. Kids will always be interested in all of these things and the only way to make sure they don’t damage themselves is to make sure they’re more informed, not less informed.” (“Authors discuss censorship for banned…” 0:40). Through his statement, Pavone demonstrates how children are better educated to make choices which are learnt through reading books. This is because children can learn from the mistakes of characters through prompts of the books. Also, topics about real-life scenarios that are written in books reassure children going through the same things that they are not alone. Thus, the stories can serve as consolation for children thinking that they are weird or not normal and help other kids understand other people’s life situations better. In addition, as stated by author Robin Berry “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz came under fire for depicting…

I strongly believe in the fact that people shouldn’t be able to challenge or ban books. First, it doesn’t follow the first amendment, free speech and beliefs. The public has different beliefs, opinions, and what they believe is right and wrong, just because a couple people don’t believe in what the book is stating, they don’t need to extract the book from other people who believe in the book. If another person has the urge to declare their point of view about what they believe no matter of the religion, race, and opinions you have, put aside some time for yourself to respect their intentions before you automatically mortify them for not being suitable to your pleasure. Another reason is that people have their own mind and time to ponder for awhile about what book that they…

    History Of Book Censorship

Everyone holds their own beliefs and ideas about what is right and how things should be. What may be considered right to one person, may be considered completely wrong to another person. No one person has the right to decide what is best for everybody. The author’s own ideologies are often expressed in books, and while people may not always agree with them, it is important not to restrict access to these books for people who many agree with them or want to learn about the specific point of view expressed in a certain book. The people in charge of banning books, such as school boards, try to decide what kids can and cannot handle without trusting the discretion of the youth they are trying to "protect". (Crutcher 1). Every child learns and progresses at different rates. To ban a book because it is unsuitable for one kid, could prevent another kid from getting the resources they need to learn and grow. What is right for one person is not what is right for everyone. It is unfair to make a decision that could affect many people based off of the needs of one person. Children often times are not even consulted when parents are deciding what their kids can and can not handle. While it is the parent’s job to protect their child, both the parents and the children need to be on the same page and need to regulate what the child reads based off of their own needs. Often times books are banned because they do not uphold the values of the people challenging them. Since everyone has their own individual beliefs, there is no way to determine what should be available to everyone. Books help to explore many different point of views in a relatable or easy to understand way. Moby-Dick, an extremely popular book even in today's society has been banned because it ¨conflicted with their community values¨. Often times when making arguments for banning a book, people…

One of the reasons why i think it should continue to be on the banned books list is because the book is full with profanity, vulgar language, and racism. When the ranch workers talk to one another, they speak with bad language, not the refined English of a more educated class. The raw language represents the men's status in this world. There are racial slurs directed at an African-American ranch hand. These ugly words are shown to degrade those who speak to them, and not those that are directed. Crooks is the only black farmhand who sleeps alone, often works alone, and as a crooked leg as a result of a lifetime of discrimination. He is called "n*ger" by nearly every character in the book, and his situation shows how segregation was in the South at the time.…

Students should be exposed to other life conditions and hardship. These books can educate individuals on other lifestyles, and struggles. By not allowing these books to enter schools and libraries, it sugar coats the world, to an extent. By censoring this books you are robbing the individual who wishes to read the book, of the associated knowledge. While some may argue that they don’t want to be or their family to be exposed to this, then preview the content. There are plenty of sources which give insight on what content is about, without actually having to ban the content in question.…

All in all, people should be allowed to read whatever they want to read, including banned and/or censored books. Not only is banning or censoring books oppression to the author, it is oppressing the readers that enjoy that author’s works. Even though certain books are inappropriate, certain books should not be banned because, said books can be misunderstood, it allows expression, and freedom of…

For Thirteen reasons Why, I can understand why people would want to have it removed because it contains drugs and alcohol, rape, bullying and talks about a teenager that committed suicide. There are also some very good reasons why it should not be banned. It shows how bullying can hurt ones feelings and may lead them into attempting suicide. So a child might think twice before that tease another person. This book can help open up a conversation with teachers and students. Sometimes it’s hard for a teenager to go talk to an adult if their having a problems, if it is read at school then it might be easier to have a serious conversation. Children may relate to certain characters from the book and also see other points of view. Like the Author from thirteen Reasons Why said “you don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own” (Asher). I feel that the good outweighs the bad and will help those children and adults come together The book was not intended for teens to act out and mimic the negative behaviors but to have a book they can relate to. Adults try protect the children by having this book banned because it is inappropriate, when teens might be going through the same life obstacles as the characters. Last but not less, you have to remember our freedom of speech and under the First Amendment we have the right to read what we…

This book, in my opinion, was a good book. It’s a book of reality; things that a seventeen year old really goes through. This book shocked me in a few ways. Catcher in the Rye has very inappropriate behavior, horrible language use, and not the best example for others to look up to. I liked the book and think others should read it. I think many can learn from his mistakes and where it leads him. It doesn’t curse as much as I thought but swears about every other line. I can very well understand why the book is banned from schools. This book isn’t one that has a great valuable lesson behind it, where you could fight for it to be read in schools. Catcher in the Rye shows examples of lust, cynicism, and erratic behavior.…

Some books are banned because they have been deemed age inappropriate. Certain people feel banning these types books protects young readers from being exposed to inappropriate elements such as foul language, suggestive themes, or drugs. That is why schools ban books. Young children do not need to be exposed to these things. Children grow up fast enough and books with inappropriate materials only speeds up the process of them losing their innocence. Despite the potential for inappropriate language, written text provides a great source of entertainment for readers.…

Another reason books are banned is because the materiel is not suitable for an age group. They are also banned due to a group’s lack of maturity or the books level of maturity is too high. For example, the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher was banned because it was “unsuited for age group”.…

Another major reason why this book should be banned is because of its sexual content. Doyle uses a lot of visualizing when he discusses high school topics like sex. For instance, Doyle uses provoking words and phrases such as “I’ll touch your dick.” (114). Now, obviously high school students know about this sort of topic, but that doesn’t mean it should be encouraged. When teenagers read this book, they might think to themselves ‘Is this the way a highschooler should be acting?’ And they might answer yes. So as you can see, this…
