Daniel Tammett is an extraordinary person in more ways than one. He has savant syndrome, which in itself is extremely rare. Savants have skills such as superior memory, lightening calculation, calendar calculating, musical ability, artistic ability, and/or language ability. Daniel has many of these. Daniel also has a “visual, emotional experience of numbers” (2) called synesthesia, which is also “a rare neurological mixing of the senses” (2), and on top of those two disorders, he also has Asperger’s syndrome. Having one of those can be so debilitating that it can be extremely hard to function in the world, but having three?? If someone were to say they had those disorders, it would be assumed that he/she would be living in a hospital because they would need help with daily living. Daniel is strong though, and he never let any of his disorders keep him down. That is a unique thing about him.…

Benjamin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massaschuetts as the 15th of 17 children to Josiah Franklin. At a young age Benjamin’s future was already decided for him, and to please his father he followed suit. However Benjamin found reading and writing to be so fascinating that it pushed him to leave his family and move to Philadelphia where the journey of who he would become began. Benjamin didn’t come from poverty, in fact he came from a wealthy family who owned a printing business, he was also the right race and gender to be successful in his time. There’s an old saying by Eleanor Roosevelt that states “You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's. The influence you exert is through your own life, and what you've become yourself.” I believe this statement is true. However, what Eleanor Roosevelt fails to mention was who, or what kind of people come into our lives and influence us to change for the better. Do these particular individuals shape our paths, or our futures? Or when these people come into our lives is it meant to happen for a reason? No one knows for sure, but when we meet someone who leaves such a profound effect on our hearts and minds, like foot prints in the sand we remember them forever. Ben Carson always mentions that his mother helped shaped his life, as well as his family, students, teachers, his strong belief in god, and his love for books helped shaped his future. Throughout middle school, high school and college these key influences would lead him to what he has become today.…

Anger. He struggled with anger management issues, which led him to attempted harm of a friend, and his own mother, but faith and reasoning saved Ben Carson from his problems. Through faith, hard work, and diligence Carson overcame the odds of being a young african american male from a one parent home, and got accepted into one of the most prestigious universities in the country, and to later become one of the greatest neurosurgeons in the world. That's what appeals me about Ben Carson, not the fact that he was the first to separate two conjoined twins, not that fact that he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but the fact that he was like me and you, human. A human with his own personal struggles, but despite his situation, he overcame society’s expectations of people like him. He wasn’t willing to be what people expected of him, he wasn’t willing to blame his situation for his failure, he blamed himself, and worked hard to achieve success. That's why I am inspired by Dr. Ben Carson, because he overcame the odds, and his situations, and relied on his faith and hardwork to achieve…

Carson used a good number of supporting ways to boost her thesis and ideas, once of which is first simply pointing out what is wrong. She expresses her emotions and how it took ten years before her speech to realize her perspective. Then, she lays out that she wishes to speak of not just of man’s relation to nature, but more of his attitude towards nature. She ingeniously defines nature as, “The part of the world that man did not make.” Proclaiming that, “The whole era of man seems but a moment--but how portentous a moment! It was only within the past million years or so that the race of man arose.” Nature long preexisted before man, but Carson and many others are puzzled why a man who walks upright on two legs, with a forever developing brain in his skull, could have the lack of control and wisdom to understand his own actions will bring his own destruction.…

Generally when we talk of individuals with disabilities, the very core or center of concern always falls on individuals with developmentally disorders, physically handicapped, emotionally disorders. We tend to miss out the individuals who are born as “gifted”. Well for us, as the title says (gifted), being born gifted is more of a blessing than the other way around. But the truth of the matter is, it is not as easy as it may seem to be. If individuals with different kinds of disorders have special needs, so do gifted individuals. It may just be in a different manner, in a dissimilar kind and in a more diverse situation but there still is a special need and this is also need to be properly addressed in the same manner as with the other disabilities.…
