Who Is Walt Disney A Hero

Walter Elias Disney was a simple farm boy from Marceline, Missouri who grew up to create childhood magic. He was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois to Elias and Flora Disney. As a young boy, Walt created a “circus” in which he dressed up various pets and farm animals. He was quite the entrepreneur and charged the local kids 10 cents to see it. His mother made him refund money to his unhappy customers (“Walt Disney Hometown Museum”). Walt also expressed an interest in the arts. He excelled in his art classes throughout school and eventually turned drawing into a career. Disney was also quite a risk-taker. He lied about his age to try to join the Army, but was rejected for being underage. Instead he became a part of the American Ambulance Corps in France at the end of World War I (JustDisney.com). Once there they began the Disney Brothers’ Studio. They distributed their Alice cartoons through Margaret Winkler. They also created a character called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which was a personification of Walt. Later the rights to Oswald and majority of Disney’s animators were stolen by Winkler and her husband Charles Mintz.
