Essay on The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a calamitous, theatrical play written by William Shakespeare. During this novel set in medieval times in Verona, Italy, a romantic couple from feuding families commit suicide and finally end the family’s feud. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the young lovers to grow up quickly, and unfortunately, fate causes them to commit suicide in despair. In this play, main conflict, Juliet’s tragic flaw, and Romeo’s tragic flaw is incorporated throughout the scenes. Romeo believes it is love at first sight when he hides underneath a mask so that no one will recognize him and observes Juliet during the Capulet’s dinner party. After the party, Romeo and Juliet confess their love for each other during the balcony scene in act two, scene two. The main conflict in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is that the profound family feud between the Capulets; Juliet’s family, and the Montagues; Romeo’s family, prohibits their marriage to exist. Juliet is ignorant and naïve because she falls in love with a stranger whose family is enemy’s with her own and promises to get married to him, not completely aware of what his true intentions were, the same night they met. Although Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet, does not approve of Romeo and Juliet’s love, Juliet is sneaky and lies to her father in order to see Romeo, and risks breaking her father’s trust.
