Her front door shut gently. ‘Happy! Of all the nonsense.’ He stopped laughing. He put his hand into the glove-hole of his front door and let it know his touch. The front door slid open. Of course I'm happy. What does she think? I'm not? he asked the quiet rooms’”(7-8). Montag is asked the crucial question which is if he is happy.This question that was asked by Clarisse was what raised a question within Montag which was completely out f character for Montag at the time.

It rushes you on so quickly to its own conclusions your mind hasn't time to protest, 'What nonsense!’‘Only the 'family' is 'people’”(80). Montag has a realization that the technology “has” the mind of all the ideal members of the society. This is important because Montag is taking another step further into humanity instead of just staying in the same spot with no
