The World War 2 had made a huge impact on Japan in many ways. Why did Japan go to the war? What was the motive of Japan during that period and who was responsible for Japanese aggression that eventually caused complete defeat of Japan in 1945. Many scholars argue the Showa emperor Hirohito was responsible for bringing the war to Japan but some argue that it was the militaristic government that overthrew the emperor’s power and led Japan to the catastrophic war and defeat. The debate over the Hirohito’s war responsibility had started after his deaths and still continues after twenty-six years and it seems, as time passes, there are more historians who argue that Hirohito was responsible for the decision-making that led to the war, therefore,…

However, it was the Japanese military leaders that did not want to surrender which led to the bombing on Hiroshima. The president asked the Japanese the first time to surrender by August 3rd and they did not and because of this being a war there is no sympathy. I believe that because of them not surrendering there is no other option. This war consisted of many people dying and there is no option but to surrender or get attacked. Japan if had the opportunity to attack, they would attack and this is true because of the constant resistance they have within the war.…

Though one wouldn’t think it, Germany wasn’t the only country guilty of having targeted an entire race of people. Though definitely not as extreme as Germany’s actions, the US was also guilty of this act, having targeted the Japanese American people after Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor. Arresting potential ‘spies,’ forcing people to move, and putting them all in camps were the main things the US had done to the Japanese people. In the book When the Emperor Was Divine written by Julie Otsuka, this event is shown through the eyes of the Japanese people as they go through this. Though many themes are most likely prevalent in the story, the one that sticks out the most is that an entire races fate should not be determined by one event.…

At the beginning of the article, Li paraphrases other authors’ perspectives on how Emperor Hirohito was regarded. Emperor Hirohito was described as “shy, awkward, and withdrawn” as opposed to having confidence and the regal presence that former leaders had (Li 4). In addition to his weak and unauthoritative appearance, Hirohito’s position as emperor was viewed as little more than a status symbol. Japanese emperors were known not for their immense governmental power, but for their role as a representation of unity among their subjects. However, after entertaining the authors’ differing stances on Hirohito, Li asserts his opinion that Hirohito’s intelligence and deviousness were underestimated. Although the amount of military influence Hirohito possessed is…

But then the bombing of Nagasaki had demonstrated otherwise, and a lie told by a downed American pilot convinced War Minister Korechika Anami that the Americans had as many as a hundred bombs. Even so, hours of meetings and debates lasting well into the early morning hours of the 10th still resulted in a 3-3 deadlock. Prime Minister Suzuki then took the unprecedented step of asking Emperor Hirohito, who never spoke at cabinet meetings, to break the deadlock. Hirohito responded:…
