When should teachers report child abuse

Idasa Maria Cobb didn’t do the right thing when it came to reporting child abuse or neglect. Mrs. Cobb got a phone called notifying her that a child was being sexually assaulted; she said that she would take care of it. She told the guidance counselors and they interviewed the child on March 31, 2014. There was no report to DSS or law enforcement until April 1, 2014.
She was arresting for not reporting when she was notified. People may wonder when a teacher, guidance counselors, principles, etc. is really supposed to report. It all depends on the school polices that it has about child abused. Some schools would rather have the teachers report whatever their suspicions are to them before they report it to Child Protective Services (CPS).
Not all teachers may know every single type of abuse of how to notice it. That is one reason why teachers don’t like to report what they see they think the school will do nothing about it. For example, a child at home is always being called stupid or their parents are saying they are never going to be worth nothing; the child comes to school depressed. How do you know they have been physically abused? The only thing you have is that they are depressed and when you report, nothing may happen. When a teacher may noticed nothing happening she think that she should report anything about that child or anybody else. Some teachers rather take notes on the child behavior or appearance then report all they have noticed. If they wait a longer time to report the child could die. Although some teachers might think that it is hard to report abuse or that they

should watch the child a little more before reporting but instead they should report as soon as possible. To be able to notice abuse you have to know all types of abuse and signs that you can look for. For instance in physical abuse it is when you hurt a child that it could cause any physical mark.
